Old Forester Signature: getting even better?
When I was down in the holy land for the Sampler last April, I took the opportunity to buy 1.75 l bottles of some of my favorite everyday pours. I got Four Roses, VOB 90 & Old Forester Signature.
It took me a while to get to the OFS but now that it's open, I'm really kind of blown away. I remember liking it when I last got it, but it seems like it is even better than it was then. The Old Forester BiB I have which I used to be crazy about has faded in comparison (although I still think it's great).
It seems much richer than I remember. Lots of brown sugar, figs, dates, clove and allspice. I almost feel like I need to check the bottle to make sure I'm not drinking the Birthday Bourbon instead.
Anybody else have this experience?
Re: Old Forester Signature: getting even better?
Signature is one of my favorite budget pours. My last bottle was outstanding, as well. I blew through it pretty quickly. Though, I must say, I've thoroughly enjoyed every bottle of this that I've had. To me, it's a great baseline bourbon. I think, if someone who didn't know bourbon wanted to know what a bourbon should or does taste like....I would give them OFS.
Re: Old Forester Signature: getting even better?
One thing I've noticed about OFS is a note of dark chocolate, bordering on unsweetened cocoa. It's unlike anything else in bourbon, and it really makes a favorable impact when I pour it for friends.

I do agree it is a very good bourbon. I did bring one plastic (like that part to) bottle home from Kentucky 2006 as I really did enjoy it. Unfortunately I cant get it here witch is a real pity.

I did a side by side comparison a few weeks ago and decided I prefer it to the Birthday.

Re: Old Forester Signature: getting even better?
I just bought a bottle a few days ago and am decently impressed with it. For the price I'd probably grab a FR Small Batch bottle 90% of the time though...just my opinion.

This has been on my wish list for a while now, and all the comments here are just making it more so :)
Re: Old Forester Signature: getting even better?
I've mentioned a few times here over the last few months (among my increasingly rare posts) that this has risen to the top of my every day pours. Sadly, I'm out right now. :(

I got plenty Jeff. You're welcome to stop by and have some anytime!

This one has been on my list for quite awhile but I keep picking something else. I may have to bump it up in line right behind Ritt100 and maybe OGD 114.
