Bourbon ale/beer recommendations?
Had someone mention bourbon ale/beer recently
and while I'm not a beer drinker at all, my wife
seems interested so I thought I'd ask here if
anyone has any recommendations.
I did a quick check on-line and found these listed
as being not half bad. If anyone has comments
on these (or any others), I'd be interested in hearing
your thoughts. Are they basically beer and if you
hate beer, you'll hate these? Or are some more
"bourbony" than others?

Allagash Musette

I'm with Oscar on the A-B Bourbon Cask Ale. Not good, at all.
But....the Allagash Curieux is mind blowing, if not cheap. I highly recommend it.
There's also the Jefferson's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout, which is awesome, as well.

Seem to me that different beers benefit or get less good from maturing in bourbon barrel. For my personal taste for example Yeti gets better and Gonzo gets worse.

It depends how much you want to spend. Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is ok. Founder's Kentucky Breakfast Stout is supposed to be awesome, but expect to pay a lot for it. BBC Bourbon Barrel Stout is pretty good. There are plenty out there, but I haven't been able to try that many. www.ratebeer.com is a good site to get an idea. Try searching Kentucky or Bourbon.
Re: Bourbon ale/beer recommendations?
I like the BBC Bourbon Barrel Stout. Also Goose Island does a bourbon barrel stout from time to time, but I don't believe they bottle it. I've had it at Hopleaf and it is awesome, but very heavy.
Re: Bourbon ale/beer recommendations?
Chuck,
Goose Island does bottle a bourbon stout (at least sometimes)....I picked up some at Sam's last year. I liked it better than the Breakfast Stout and it was cheaper.

There are Swedish beer on place 2 and 24 from a very small micro brewery could Närkes kulturbryggeri. I have visited it twice and it is very small. First time all had there regular jobs and they did the brewing in evenings and weekends, but now one man works full time. The 2 beers are the same except that no 2 is matured in a bourbon barrel. I like no 24 better.

Thanks to all who replied (and especially for
the ratebeer link - a VERY helpful site!)
Appreciate the warning about the A-B Cask Ale.
Tho' it'd probably be the easiest to find, I'll try'n
steer clear. Based on your comments and the
RB ratings, I think I'll be looking for some of
these as my first steps:
Goose Island Bourbon County stout
Lost Abbey The Angels Share (Bourbon Barrel)
Founder's Kentucky Breakfast Stout
Kuhnhenn Bourbon Barrel Barley Wine
Allagash bottlings
