For me, it is Stella Maris, by the Northstar winery in Columbia Valley, WA.
It's mostly Merlot, with a portion of Cabernet Sauvignon mixed-on. I picked it up on clearance at the PA state store for $24 a bottle.
Velvety texture, rife with black raspberry and plum tasting notes, and a hint of spice in the nose.
Not as sweet as most CA Merlots-- definitely drier, and lighter. It would be perfect with a rare grilled Filet Mignon.
When it comes to wine, I'm a firm believer in one of the informal rules around here regarding whiskey. If you like it, you like it. Whether it's Foxhorn, $3 Chuck or Boone's Farm.
On a similar note, this afternoon I'm enjoying some Remvi White Retsina from INO. Light & fresh, not too spectacular, but very refreshing. And then there's the pine resin finish. Fun every now and then, but I couldn't drink this on a regular basis.
recently released 2008 The Prisoner by Orin Swift--a blend from Napa, mostly Zinfandel.
Spring Mountain Cabernet 2005 just arrived---excellent. they also make a good Sauvignon Blanc.
Rombauer Cabernet--tried it at a Binny's California tasting. in the $30 range, but worth it.
Just some Alpha King tonight while watching my hockey team return to proper form. Go Hawks!!!!
Joe, you are from KY.
The Red Wings should be your hockey team.
RT. 23 goes from KY to MI.
We have the biggest KY Heritage Organization in the country.
Just funnin' ya dude.
I think the Hawks and Wings are on a collision course in the playoffs.
Back on topic, wine I'm not drinking is Ripple with a pack of Kool-Aid poured in.
It killed PigPen.
Drinking some Joel Gott Cabernet Sauvignon.
They both are gonna have to go through the LA Kings:grin:
