Finished up a bottle of 10' WLW
Had to put the last pour through a coffee filter as there was a bit of barrel char and sediment at the bottom of the bottle
Four Roses Single Barrel gone yesterday. Sad to see it go, I seem to like anything Four Roses makes.
Best regards, Tony
Unbleached coffee filters do not impart any flavor into the beverage that is being filtered. I've noticed that the barrel sediment/soot can impart off flavors into the last pour of an unfiltered bottle.
If I want the last pour to be as good as the ones that came before it, I use a coffee filter.
Yum, the last grit filled pour from a Stagg or WLW is my most cherished one. The more shtuff at the bottom, the better. Grind it around on my teeth. Give's 'em a good polish. :D I like my juice with the pulp in it...too...;)
I finished off a 2010 WLW this week as well. After getting a very bitter pour from my last couple ounces of a Thomas H. Handjob Unfiltered Straight Rye, I strained the char out. I don't mind that it's in there, but by the time I killed the bottle it was like a black sludge. Also, this time around I tried to remember to swirl the bottle a little before pouring so I could distribute the char more evenly across the whole bottle. Stupendous!
