Re: BOTM 9/12: Evan Williams BIB AND Heaven Hill BIB
EW BIB and HH White & Gold BIB are all amazing values, IMHO. Excellent whiskey that is a pleasure to drink straight, but inexpensive enough to mix without guilt. I only wish they were readily available here. EW and HH Gold aren't available in the state and the White comes and goes. I have a couple of White's bunkered, but need to stock up on the others.
Re: BOTM 9/12: Evan Williams BIB AND Heaven Hill BIB
Is the gold BIB still produced? I've run across a few handles but they're all dusty, stating DSP-KY-31. Also, what's the difference between White and Gold? Age? Or, since BIB, all 4 years, just barrel selection?
Ok, I think I found it, white is 6 years, gold 4.

Plenty of current gold in Minnesota. And yes, the white label is 6 years old.
Are you sure the bottles you're seeing are dusties? If I'm not mistaken they still bottle it at DSP-31 and maybe that's all they need to list since they own both. I don't have one in front of me but I'm pretty sure the bottles I buy don't list DSP-1 on them.
Re: BOTM 9/12: Evan Williams BIB AND Heaven Hill BIB
The liter I bought in KY last Spring is labeled distilled at DSP-KY-1, bottled at DSP-KY-31.
Re: BOTM 9/12: Evan Williams BIB AND Heaven Hill BIB
I will have to check when I get home. I apologize in advance if I'm spreading bad info.
Re: BOTM 9/12: Evan Williams BIB AND Heaven Hill BIB
If they're sitting next to each other on the shelf I'll get the 6yr old but the truth is I like all the HH 100 proof expressions equally.
Re: BOTM 9/12: Evan Williams BIB AND Heaven Hill BIB
Picked up a bottle of EW BiB last year in GA when I was visiting my mother. Don't think I paid any more than $10 and that was a steal! At the suggestion of another member I kept it in the fridge and that brought out alot of wonderful nutty flavors. This has to be the best value in non-barrel proof bourbon. It's a shame I can't find it in NY :hot:
Re: BOTM 9/12: Evan Williams BIB AND Heaven Hill BIB
Well, I was wrong. My open bottle states that it was distilled at DSP-1 and bottled at DSP-31.
Re: BOTM 9/12: Evan Williams BIB AND Heaven Hill BIB
Picked up a liter of the gold label BiB in Ocala, Florida for $11. First two pours were soooo delicious, like an oily corn liquor made from big, juicy corn kernels, with a bit of a minty rye kick. It's changed with air to be a lot maltier, a lot like EW1783 and Old Ezra 101. I don't like it as much but it's a great flask whiskey. Thanks, HH! I'm not sure if I've had anything superlative from them except the PHC wheater and Golden Anniversary, but they make the most dependable stuff for camping trips and the like.

Dependable exactly describes my feeling toward Heaven Hill whiskies.
