I was offered a bottle of 28 year old Hirsch Selection Bourbon for $300. It had just been returned (I did not know liquor stores take returns...). The clerk tried to sell it based on the fact that Pappy 23 goes for $250, so for only $50 more I was getting another 5 years in wood. I know I tasted some very aged Hirsch Selection bourbon a few years ago that was some of the blandest, most overly-wooded whiskey I've ever had; not sure if it was from this bottling, but I told the clerk that if he was going to drink it he should watch out for splinters on his tongue.

Nice. Even with the 90 proofers, we could probably make an educated guess based on the known entry proof and the percentage of loss, though I suppose we can't assume that a given rate of loss would equal a constant rise in proof... yet again, more math than I'm willing to attempt.

I didn't do the other two because they're not barrel proof and we don't know what the proof was before dilution.
I was looking into the bottle calculations and came up with some different results. Please correct me if there's something I'm doing incorrectly.
2012 Stagg: 14,481 bottles ((118 barrels x 53 gallons)x (1-0.5369 for evaporation loss) x 5 for # of bottles per gallon
2012 WLW: 5,634 bottles. 0.566 for evaporation
2012 Handy: 8,689 bottles. 0.3023 for evaporation

You're correct. Revised calcs below using .198129 for 750ml expressed in gallons.
Stagg: 14,617
WLW: 5,688
Handy: 8,771
Maybe I'll give the 90 providers a go this weekend if anybody cares.

I'm impressed Gentleman. It was difficult enough for me to export the barrel numbers over correctly from the fact sheets . So who's more correct and based on evaporation loss is there much of any bottle difference between 2012 and 2011?
Re: What did you pass up today? Autumn '12
Jefferson's Straight Rye Whiskey had to be left behind when I went on my latest whiskey run yesterday. Maybe next time.

Ah, I forgot to convert to 750ml, so my figures are in liters. Yours are correct!

Left 4 bottles of THR in Baltimore on sale for $59 made it hard to do but luggage was near the legal limit. Bought 3 plus a GTS. Shipped the GTS and carried the Rye's in my luggage.
