Re: What did you pass up today? Autumn '12
Walking through Liquor Barn in Louisville was tough, but I could only fit two bottles safelly in my roller bag for the flight home tomorrow. Had to pass up the following:
Hancock's Reserve (Private Barrel Selection) for $33
Knob Creek Private Single Barrel Selection for $36
Four Roses Barrel Strength Private Barrel Selection (OESF, 122.x proof)for $54 (but I DID pick up the OBSF version!)
Elmer T Lee Private Barrel Selection for $26 (as I look forward to the GBS selection in April!)
James E Pepper 1776 Rye 100 proof (at KBF I tried a James E Pepper 1776 15 yr Bourbon that I really liked) for $28
There were some others, but those were the only ones I made records of before I was near tears. Would have loved to bring home a couple more . . . not that I have ANY whisky shortage at the house

Buffalo Trace priced at $24.95 which for this area is a bit high.

Passed on a Pappy 15 priced at $149.99, a Lot B for $79.99, and a ORVW 10/107 for $49.99.
First I ever saw in the wild, almost pulled the trigger out of reflex, then took note of the price and had to let it go. Told the guy they were way above msrp, he just said prices for those are going up... I said I know peole will pay for them, but I got a Lot B for $52 and I got a 20yr for $114...So,
A Ritt. 21yr for $189.99 ... Really want this bottle, but can't justify the price...right now
Also left behind an Old Potrero 18th cent. an an EC18, (got one of each).
Also saw a place that had a lot of tax stamp bottles, some WT something, definitely saw a Old Charter 86 and some other different spirits. Asked if they were for sale, they said they were just part of the display... :skep:

Didn't pass up a thing I could afford, of course if I'd had a few extra Benjamins on me my bag would have been heavier.

Stopped in a new store (to me) today and saw several bottles of the '12 PHC for $80, plenty of EC20 (forgot the price) and more JPS at $90 (batch 6 and 15).
Also saw a couple I haven't noticed before including Kentucky Vintage and Corner Creek from KBD. The person I talked to (not sure what his function was, may well have been the owner!) was convinced that KBD was a fine little family distillery that made all their own products based on what his rep had told him. Far be it for me to burst his bubble since it was the first time I had been there although I may have politely mentioned he may want to check that and showed him that the Willett Rye came from Indiana, not Kentucky and that I was pretty sure KBD sourced all their whiskey from somewhere else! I know they are now distilling too but I don't think they sell anything yet do they?
Also saw a couple of bottles from Journeyman Distillery out of Michigan, including the Buggy Whip Wheat and Silver Cross whiskey at $46 each. I presume it is young whiskey but at least it appears to be made by the distillery listed on the label! Decided not to experiment with it without at least doing some research on it. Seemed to be plenty available so I doubt it is going anywhere soon.

Passed up a JPS 17, batch 9. I've never had a JPS 17 over batch 7, so I didn't want to risk $90.
Also passed up plenty of different 25yr old Islays.
