Store writing down Driver's License Info
Well, had a strange experience at a store out by my parents. Bought 3 bottles of an allocated rye because it was at the state min and I enjoy drinking it. The store owner took my license and credit card. He then proceeded to write down my license information claiming that he is required to track sales on multiple bottle purchases in case my intent was to re-sell the product online, which it is not.
I have never run across this before and find it quite odd. Has anyone else run into this? Is there anything inappropriate that he could do with my info?

I think he was looking for other identifying information from you so that he could buy concert tickets on your credit card.

How would you sell it online now that Ebay has abandoned their charade of allowing sales of "collectible bottles"? Either he is not up to date or he is up to something fishy.

It is fishy to me. I would like to report it, but not sure to whom and if it would do any good. Will check my credit card tomorrow and may cancel it just to be safe.

Contact the local police station and ask if they know anything about the practice?
Re: Store writing down Driver's License Info
Never heard of such a thing for liquor in Michigan. I know they now have some rules around buying kegs.
Best regards, Tony

Completely out of line, he has other motives. Even if you were to resell it, so what? Once it's yours what you do with it is none of his business.
Re: Store writing down Driver's License Info
There is a store that a hit occasional that does something similer, except they scan your license into the POS.
They clearly have it posted that the ID is required for any transaction

Call me old fashioned (well, old anyway) but that sort of thing is just too personally intrusive for my tastes. If my local tried something like that a good chunk of his customers would take their trade elsewhere.
Re: Store writing down Driver's License Info
So assuming that they knew exactly what you bought and found those same bottles online, how would they know they were YOUR bottles?
