Re: What to Buy? Rank Em..
Old Grand Dad was Bukowskis favourite drink, so it's hard not to love it! In Germany still single malt rules, but the bourbon community is rising, slowly, but rising. Five years ago the only bourbon you could buy was JB, then they had JD, which is known as "bourbon" here in "Deutscheländ", now they have Maker's Mark, Four Roses, OGD sometimes. I mostly buy in online-shops. Old Grand Dad is great, best value I think. I never had the OGD BiB, because especially this one is hard to get.
Re: What to Buy? Rank Em..
I'll make a write in vote for Fighting Cock at under $20 / 750 mL.
Re: What to Buy? Rank Em..
Go with Old Grand Dad 114. As I like to say, "The best Pappy currently made". Heck, it may have been the best Pappy, back in the day... ;)
Grab the Old Forester Signature, too. Put it in the fridge, and drink from there. You'll love it.
Re: What to Buy? Rank Em..
I love the OGD 114, as I tend to love the high proof stuff more and more, I just can't explain it. The last bottles I bought were all high proof stuff, probably the best was WT 101. Pappy van Winkle just vanished out of all the stores and shops, there is literally no more Pappy, or to ridiciolus prices. Can anybody explain this to me???
Re: What to Buy? Rank Em..
I never met the gentleman (Charles Bukowski?) so cannot comment but Old Grand Dad has many adherents.
Re: What to Buy? Rank Em..
Yeah, Charles Bukowski, one of my favourite writers. He mentions OGD a lot in his stories. It was the first bourbon I stumbled upon, and bought it because of the vintage outfit, and since this day I always habe a bottle at home.
Re: What to Buy? Rank Em..
As well you should, I also keep a bottle or two around.
