Daily pour replacement
New guy here. Long time straightbourbon.com observer, first time interacting. I have been trying various bourbons over the last few years and have comfortably settled on Old Forester as my moderately priced, delicously tasting, daily pour. However, recently the liquor stores here no longer carry this fine bourbon.http://www.straightbourbon.com/forum...emlins/hot.gif Does anyone have recommendations on possible replacements for Old Forester as my daily pour bourbon? Thanks. I wanted to let you know that this site has been very helpful to me in learing about bourbon and the fine offerings that exist in the marketplace. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forum...mlins/grin.gif
Re: Daily pour replacement
Welcome. Your only other Brown-Forman (the maker of OF) offerings are Woodford Reserve, Early Times -- a Kentucky whiskey, not technically bourbon -- and Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, not likely available if ordinary OF isn't. Is Woodford Reserve available? Pricey, though, compared to OF.
Very Old Barton comes to mind, too, but isn't widely available outside mid-country.
Something in the same price range might be Evan Williams black (7yo), or Weller Special Reserve (7yo) if you're up to trying a 'wheater'.

Wild Turkey 101
Elijah Craig 12-yr old
Ancient Ancient Age 10-yr old
Old Grand Dad
....
Lots of possibilities, if they are available to you.

Re: Daily pour replacement
Can you buy OF over the Internet and get it sent to Idaho?
Other low end pours? Can't go wrong with Rebel Yell and JB Black IMO
I've got a mostly full bottle of OF I'll be happy to give to you if you cover the price of shipping. I don't care for the stuff. Give me a private message if interested.
Re: Daily pour replacement
Old Grand Dad bottled in Bond is a delicious pour, WT 101 and JB Black are also excellent. All of these are considerably more expensive than Old Forester, but not yet into the high priced spread.
Re: Daily pour replacement
In roughly the same price range (~$20 or a bit less), my money goes to Jim Beam Black.
Re: Daily pour replacement
Welcome to the boards! I recommend Weller 12 y.o. if you can find it. Inexpensive and delicious!

Rather than taking our recommendations as gospel, think of this as an opportunity to expand your horizons. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forum...mlins/grin.gif
Bourbon exploration is great fun! If you've lurked here awhile I'm sure you've seen lots of threads talking about "bargain bourbons." Pick a brand and try it! Don't like that one? Drown it with ginger ale and try another. Heck, try another one anyway!
Enjoy, and welcome!

Re: Daily pour replacement
WT 101 is always good. Highly recommended.
Weller Antique 7YO 107 is good too.
