Tom Sims

I just got back from a trip to Florida, where I bought a 200 ml bottle of "Tom Sims Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey", "Aged 6 Years" by "Sixth Generation Kentucky Distillers," at the "Thomas W. Sims Distillery" in Bardstown. Eighty proof. The first 5 UPC digits are 96749, same as Evan Williams. Is this new? I hadn't seen it in that store over the holidays, and a search on "Sims" here didn't really hit anything.

Not bad. Simple, with a nice flavor, and hit the spot for counteracting the caffine from driving. I hadn't had much HH product before; I didn't really like the EWSB '94 until the tail end of the bottle. BTW, the store had a sign comparing the price of this and JB white (couple of bucks at 750 ml), their ages, and said "you do the math." Don't tell the Beam rep.

Interesting...is this an 80 proof version of Fighting Cock perhaps?

That sounds like a great ad!

I've never had Fighting Cock, so I can't give any comparison. And just to clarify, this wasn't really and ad, just a hand-written sign someone had put up. May not have survived the next manager's shift; the store certainly stocks all the expected Beam products.

I have a bottle of Tom Sims Bourbon that I bought about 20 years ago (I think). This is the second bottle that I have had, some of my friends drank the first one not knowing I was planning to keep it. I have search and I don't find Thomas W. Sims Distillery of Stanley Kentucky to be in business any longer. I did find a connection to Ben F. Medley & Company Kentucky Distillers, but could not find much more than that. I would like to have another bottle that I could open and drink.
Having grown up in KY and a Bourbon Lover, Tom Sims Bourbon is pretty interesting to me.

The "label" Tom Sims is now owned by Heaven Hill Distilleries...in Bardstown...We still bottle it today.

I'm in jacksonville fl and and been told my my local merchant (ABC ) that Tom Sims now owns Weller, and that the Sims bottle you mentioned in fact contains the 12 yo Weller. I didn't like it as much as Weller, but it's certainly a nice pour, and cheap enough to use as a mixer. BTW, I just bought a bottle of Old Crow to make "skip and go naked's" and after tasting it straight up, I turned to my wife and proclaimed " that's the worst bourbon I've ever tasted"! live and learn.

Just in case anyone is confused Boone has the 411 on this. I am sure she has watched them on the line. HH bottles a ton of labels. Good thing they make good stuff.

As for Old Crow it tied for last place with a few others, like Dickel, damn flintstones.

I am positive that the UPC on this label is HH :grin: :grin: :grin:

I am positive that we ran this bottling on O-LINE, 1.75---Pet, last Wednesday night :grin:
