Just finished "taking down" Christmas. Going to reward myself with a little WLW 06.
Just an update on my quiet night in...
The movie was very poor indeed. The whiskey on the other hand - well that's another story!
YUM YUM!
Please share your taste buds' response to the extra char in the Manhattan. I've spoken of this before, and I wonder whether we agree.
Yours truly,
Dave Morefield
After two preprandial manhattans made with Vya sweet vermouth that I picked up in LA while visiting our new granddaughter :woohoo: , one made with a mix of Fleishmann's and WT ryes, the other with a mix of Saz Jr and WT rye, I'm savoring a postpranidal second to last pour of the 142.7 proof George T. Stagg, the original (I think) hazmat.
Wow! is all I can say.
And considering that I water my whiskey down (I know - heresy) to around 70 proof for drinking as a rule, this one is really a value. I bought it down it Lexington a few years ago and have nursed it along. I'll be sorry to see it become a dead soldier.
What depth! And finesse, despite the strength. The old iron fist in a velvet glove.
I'm going to sit in front of the fire and savor this one.
Cheers from Ann Arbor, where the temperature has finally begun to drop into a seasonal range where one can enjoy a bourbon like this.

Drinking a little WT rye here in northwestern IL.
One of these days I will use this to make a Manhattan. The only rye Manhattan I've had; I used Saz 18, I'll never do that again. A terrible waste of that precious elixir!
Well, I started this afternoon with some Wathens while smoking my pipe. Now, it's Lot B.
My brother happened to be in town tonight. He is a scotch drinker, so I brought out the heavy hitters to show him what bourbon is about. Started with a round of WLW '06, followed by an ORVW 15/107. We then had a brief intermission for dinner, rounded out with a little pour of VanBlankle. Good night indeed....
Took myself to the bar across the street to watch the game this evening, after having a beer dinner-Guinness-pertiser, Fullers ESB salad and Hoegarden main course, I setted in with some VWFRR for the remainder of the game. Now it's a visit down memory lane with some VOB 100 (my early bourbon regular)...man it's good to be home
I'm drinking Ancient Ancient Age tonight. Figured I'd tap into this since another bottle is on the way from Binny's as we speak. Might move onto some rye in a few.
