Four Roses Yellow Label Reformulated
I just returned from a luncheon for Mellow Moments Club members. (Four Roses BourboGeeks)
Jim Rutledge showed the new Yellow Label.
Very Nice. Torn Parchment Look.
But I think the bourbon is different.
1. More years in the barrel (a slight hint of oak, unusuaL in FR bourbons)
2. Lots more Rye
3. More balanced
I got a hint from the distillery manager that this is a different mix of the 10 bourbons from FR and find the improvement very positive.
If you've ever had the honor of tasting Super Premium, draw a line half-way between it and regular yellow label.
A positive move in my opinion.
On a separate note, I got some info on the upcoming Rutledge commemorative (Barrel Proof, non-chill filtered). Its 13.5 years old and less than 1700 bottles wil be available.
Best way to get one is to call the gif t shop and reserve one, if you're attending "Let's Talk Bourbon"at KBF. Otherwise, contact Sal at Thoroughbred Shop in Lexington. He's getting an allocation and will sell out quick.

Good information. Thanks Ed :toast:
I guess it's time to bunker away a couple of yellow-label bottles for posterity.
Re: Four Roses Yellow Label Reformulated
Thanks for the update, Ed. Just what the Yellow label needed, a shot in the arm. I'm sure the price will remain the same.....right?

Re: Four Roses Yellow Label Reformulated
Was able to talk to Al Young today. I won't quote him....but the idea on the Yellow Label is that they will use 7-8 of the bourbon recipes. Proof(80) and age remain relitively unchanged.
BTW the 5 yeast strains are as follows: Fruity1, Fruity2, Herbal, Floral and Spicey. Also, FR has expanded to Chicago, Tenn. and NJ.

Coincidentally, those are also the names of the new Spice Girls.

I'm guessing the Fruity's are twins?...Kinda like the Doublemint variety?

I have been going to see Sal Marino for years now he's a super sharp guy. I you want any of that Staight from the Barrel give him a call he's taken names. I spoke with him last week and today and have a large order placed for my trip down in Ocotber.
I will be picking me up some old yeller as well or should I say New Yella
Cheers!!
