Re: So what is everyone smoking?
I agree with the comments on the 5 Vegas above, with the addition that their yearly "limitada" release is consistently one of my favorites. As far as the Patel seconds from Holts, do you know what line they are from? I would encourage caution here depending on how discounted they are. I am a pretty big fan of most of the Patel smokes, but I bought a box of one of their "exclusively for Holts" blends ( I think it was Ocean something) and they are average at best. If the seconds are one of the proprietary blends, I personally would pass. If they're from the vintage line or decade, might be a great buy.
Keep us posted if you pull the trigger.

Clingman71, my son is also at Ft. Benning. I just got his mailing address so I can write to him.
Hope your son is well.
Thanks Greg. I got his mailing address last week. I've received one letter so far, and find myself writing everyday. I've been the young kid in the Army, and now the parent. Being the parent is far harder. Hope your son is also well.
We are all looking forward to trip down to Ft Benning for family day and graduation, maybe the return trip afterward will result in some dusties to help with the stress.

What I have read on these is that supposedly they were sitting in a warehouse for 3 years in boxes for either a special order or a promo that fell through. They are different from the regular line in that they are box pressed and it would stand to reason that they have more age on them if the back story is to be believed.
I have been hesitant to jump into the RP pool since some seem to think the brand is overextended. OTOH I do like that they have regular lines. The more I learn about cigars the more I keep coming back to the idea that there has to be something in the middle of Boutique and Mass Market.
Re: So what is everyone smoking?
Tonight I am enjoying several pours of Old Fitz BIB. It goes well with the A. Fuente 858 Lonsdale that were delivered today.

I am waiting for a letter from my son and I agree being the parent of a young man in the Army is stressful. The last phone call I received from him he sounded like he was really enjoying it. That's a big change from High School when I had to kick him out of bed so he would get to school on time.
I believe graduation is October 14th.
Re: So what is everyone smoking?
Greg, my son's graduation is also Oct 14. He is alpha co, 2 bn, 330 in, 1st platoon. I plan on making the trip down to ft Benning. If you like, we can plan on meeting and pouring a toast to our sons, and all the soldiers for that matter.

Re: So what is everyone smoking?
Robert, I highly recommend several of the RP lines, especially the vintage '90 and '92 and the Decades. There is one more I really like, but can't recall the name. It's just the Holt exclusives that didn't really do it for me.

My son is also in A Company 2nd BN 330th Infantry Division. His name is Jason Adams #301. It would be a kick if the kids were in the same barracks.

Thanks for that recommendation. I have not had any RP stuff. Between your post and Clingmans right after with the AF 858, well, I have been staring for 2 days on the monster site that has had a six pack of Maduros for $21 shipped: 2 RP, 2 Oliva O , 2 AF 858.
I swear I'll but that one next time. And I put in my cart two days ago for $20 shipped a 5 pack of the Jaime Garcia Maduro Robusto's but the clock went to the next hour and they jacked the price.
So now I know.

What site are you using? If I order online, I usually use Cigars International; they have pretty good selections of mixed combo packs. They usually offer more name brand cigars than say JR's or Thompsons.

When I say Cigar Monster I mean the daily deals site of Famous. From 11 - 12 each day they have deals up in the a.m. and p.m. hours.
Famous has a few more options than CI. I have been using the auction side of CI as well, Cigar Bid. I have kept that pretty much under control with my biggest newbie mistake of ordering too many 5 Vegas sticks. That really is not such a big deal as I paid less than $3 ea for all of them but if you don't really like them, not much point in buying them............
