Re: Which Water of Life Did You Purchase Today?
Hope you can get the leaking bottle resolved!
Picked up a Talisker 18 at $80 because I wanted to try it before the price goes through the roof. Also decided to try the Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or sitting nearby on the shelf on a whim because the sauternes finish sounded interesting, most reviews have been pretty good here and elsewhere and I like a touch of sweetness...
Re: Which Water of Life Did You Purchase Today?
I haven't had the Glenmorangie 18, but with that said the Nectar d'Or is a runaway favorite from that distillery for me.
Which Water of Life Did You Purchase Today?
That Nectar D'Or goes down way too easy - good stuff!
Re: Which Water of Life Did You Purchase Today?
Had just a taste of the Talisker last night. Has been a while say I had much of the more briney scotches. Will be interesting to work through this one! Looking forward to trying the Glenmorangie.

Butting in for a quick question. I used to love the Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish. But, I don't think they make it anymore? Is that right? I think there were a couple of other finished ones, as well, that I found enjoyable. Those still made?

I think that is the Quinta Ruban - saw it at the store last time I checked.

I just noticed Florida ABC has Wiser's Legacy Pot Still Rye on the available list. Have any of you FL guys seen this on the shelves?

Oh. Same stuff, with just a name change? Thanks for the info!

According to this post at Whisky Advocate the new "Extra Matured" line at Glenmorangie includes three different 10 year old bourbon cask whiskies finished for an additional two years in three different woods, Nectar D'or (sauternes barriques matured), Lasanta (sherry cask matured) and Quinta Ruban (matured in a Port pipe). The Lasanta is the new version of the former Sherry Wood Finished whisky. The former Glenmorangie Madeira Wood Finish and Glenmorangie Burgundy Wood Finish were being phased out and I presume somewhat dusty by now. The blog did not mention a Port Wood Finish but i have seen it in reviews. Presumably it is a dusty now too.
There are several other expressions that see some sherry, in particular the intriguing Sonnalta PX and Finealta, but I don't think any others in the line use port pipes.
Of note the ultra spendy Glenmorangie Pride 1981 also spent time in Sauternes casks. I saw one of those bottles in a store recently (forgot what the asking price was). It wasa spectacular presentation and I am sure it is a spectacular whisky. But I think I will have to make do with the Nectar D'or.
Re: Which Water of Life Did You Purchase Today?
I should add that at least one review said the former Port Wood Finish was different from the current Quinta Ruban port finish bottling.
I have no personal experience to say one way or the other of course!
