One of my local liquor stores had Highland Park 18 on sale for $55. Lately Ive been spending $90, so I grabbed two at that price.
This may sound crazy, but I feel like highland park whisky is just too light. After reading so many bourbon drinkers suggest HP12, I finally got one, and it just isn't my favorite. I would much, MUCH rather have a bottle of ardbeg 10 on hand, which sounds crazy to me.
I guess if I want scotch, I want it to taste completely different than bourbon...
perhaps I'll go pick up a bottle of Laphroiag 15 year at some point to try.
Popped my name in the lottery to get a bottle of Julio's Balvenie 15 year "Singularity #66" Highland SM. Apparently, Balvenie has never done a barrel for a private party before but did so with Julio's thus the name Singularity.
Week before last I picked up a bottle of Glenmorangie 10 to give as a gift to my daughter's boyfriend (we drove up to Hood River last weekend for a belated Christmas get together). He opened it while we were there.
It'd been several years since I last had it, and while sipping it I thought Wow, I've forgotten how good this is. I wonder if I should get a bottle.
Right then my wife (who was drinking it as well) exclaimed, "Hey! This is good! We should get some!"
Which pretty much settled the matter, so I bought a bottle at lunch today.
Picked up a bottle of Black Bottle for the first time. I'm having my first taste and really like it. Lots of flavor and smoke for a $15 bottle!
Black Bottle to me is also a very nice surprise with its complexity and subtle peat and smoke. Nice price too.
I'm currently enjoying Ballantine's Finest, a wonderful inexpensive blend.
