Sticky: Re: BOTM 1/14: Colonel E H Taylor Small Batch

I really like the small batch, it might be my favorite of the BT high corn mashbill, for the money. Unfortunately it's going for $40 now instead of $34 like my last bottle.

I really like this one. Like Joe's experience, the first bottle I bought (a couple years ago) was full of orange and menthol/eucalyptus goodness. I just finished one a couple weeks ago that had a...

Re: BOTM 3/10: Evan Williams Black Label 86 proof

In my opinion the minty flavors are disappearing from Heaven Hill's bourbons over time. Especially EWB, the last several bottles I've had were not minty at all.

It still tastes like a Barton product, for what it's worth.

I just finished a bottle of this about a week ago. It was decent enough, lots of vanilla and some nice leatheriness. I got it on sale for about $20. Normal price is closer to $30 around here, and...

    Haha, nice.
They told Chuck Cowdery it would be back in 2013.

I'm pretty sure WT makes their own rye.

I was a fan of the 101 when it was available and when it was under $20. I never loved it as much as a lot of folks on here, though. Not enough to bunker...

Sticky: Re: BOTM 4/13: Old Grand Dad 114

It's funny, I often drink my bourbon with one or two ice cubes, but OGD 114 I either take neat or with a little cold water. It doesn't take ice well, to my taste.

I'm not sure I should even try to add to what squire said above but I will say this. It seems like OGD 114 is a little less hot and better balanced as of late. I can't put my finger on it exactly. ...

You may be right, squire. I am just thinking in comparison to the other Indiana ryes I have (Bulleit, Willett). I will say that the maple does add a touch of smokiness to the aroma, in a nice way. ...

I revisited this last night and it came off as sweeter than I recalled. Still very good but the maple-filter may be a double-edged sword.

I wish this were available in the Twin Cities (if it is, I've never seen it). But we get the 8 year old, 86 proof still which is some consolation.

How does the White Label compare to Fighting...

I picked up one of these yesterday for about $24. The cheapest I've seen it so far is just under $22. But on the other hand I can get Bulleit for under $20 on sale.

I have a Bulleit open at the...

You might like Eagle Rare. Not really my cup of tea but it could run in the group you've listed, it shares some things in common with them.

For something a little different I'd recommend Baker's....

$25 seems pretty high. I can ususally find it for about $17. I think that's a fair price although sometimes I choose Fighting Cock instead at the same price point. If it was over $20 I would just...

Plenty of current gold in Minnesota. And yes, the white label is 6 years old.

Are you sure the bottles you're seeing are dusties? If I'm not mistaken they still bottle it at DSP-31 and maybe...

    Re: St. Paul, MN Greetings

No, not that Fleischmann's. What you see around here is Fleischmann's Preferred, which is a blend. The rye is a straight rye.

    Re: St. Paul, MN Greetings

Interesting. Templeton is made, as far as we can tell, at MGPI and has no corn in the mashbill.

If you like that somewhat gentler rye profile you might try to find a bottle of Wild Turkey...
