Sticky: Re: BOTM 8/13: Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel

FWIW, recent custom bottlings have been from 9 yo barrels.

A bunch of these showed up recently at several local stores. Must have been constipation somewhere in the supply chain

Sticky: Re: BOTM 6/13: Wild Turkey Rye 101

WTR 101 was what the other WT expressions used to be: a straight forward, honest, in-your-face (in a good way), unapologetic whiskey. I fear if it ever comes back to market it will have devolved like...

Sticky: Re: BOTM 3/13: George Dickel Rye.

The charcoal filtering calms down the over-the-top mint notes that sometimes are predominant in LDI rye. The price makes in an incredible value. And you gotta love the old-timely labeling.

Sticky: Re: BOTM 2/13: Old Charter 101

Young, hot, and cheap. Great characteristics for some things in life but not, IMO, bourbon. The 101 proof makes it a relatively efficient alcohol-delivery system.

    Re: Top Shelf Chick

IMO, this whole "proper glass" thing is a lotta fashion over form. I would bet that 90%+ of the people on this site (most of which are more sophisticated than the average drinker... I think),...

Sticky: Re: BOTM 2/12: Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit

Used to be a good pour but, alas, in recent years it seems to have gotten younger, thin, and lacking complexity. IMO, no longer worth the money.

Now some dusties, on the other hand....
  8. Re: Botm 12/11: Colonel E.H. Taylor New Release

The single barrel is a delightful bourbon: delicate and nuanced. Well-integrated from nose to finish. Classic bourbon notes of vanilla, caramel, and dark fruit. Wish I would have bunkered a few when...

Re: BOTM: 11/11 Old Ezra 101

Fine for mixing... not so much for drinking by itself.

    Re: BOTM 10/11: Angel's Envy

that's what Wes Henderson said a few months ago. Several folks here have sampled the BS version. I think it will happen... But the date may slip somewhat (depending on your location)

They're supposed to be coming out with a barrel-strength version by year end.

    Re: BOTM 10/11: Angel's Envy

I like it but I really like the fact that my wife loves it. Because of AE, she's stopped drinking my Lot B! ;)

Re: BOTM 8/11: Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve

Great premise... but, alas, much ado about not so much.

Better than the regular KC --- but only.

    Re: BOTM 7/11: Maker's 46

It's better than the regular MM... for what that's worth.

I wonder how this is selling now that the hoopla of the original roll-out is over?

I asked a couple of local bartenders ---- they...

Re: BOTM 6/11: Very Special Old Fitzgerald

IMO, the current version is just (sigh) "OK". After tastng and loving the recent PHC release, I have to ask again: why doesn't HH release a wheater worthy of the OF brand?

Re: BOTM: 3/11 Old Fitzgerald BIB

Or won't. When I asked Craig Beam (at a tasting a while back) about HH doing more / better with their wheaters --- all I got in response was an indifferent shrug of the shoulders.
  17. Re: BOTM 2/11: Old Rip Van Winkle 10 yr 107 proof

One of the reliable classics! Regardless of origin, a great. always-satisfying wheater. I've got a bunch bunkered. It's one of my reliable, "go-to" pours. Just the right amount of age and proof to...
  18. Re: BOTM 12/10: Henry McKenna Single Barrel 10 yr BIB

I agree: a good bourbon and a good value. Certainly one of the better HH offerings

Re: BOTM 11/10: Eagle Rare Single Barrel

Always been a good (if not great) pour for me. Seems like I'm seeing it more often in high-end bars and restaurants where it is a welcome change from the usual suspects.

Re: BOTM 4/10: 2009 Four Roses Mariage

I agree... simply one of the best bourbons I have ever tasted. Great depth and maturity without too much char and oak.

Makes me excited for the 2010 Mariage.
  24. Re: BOTM 2/10: Ezra Brooks-Ezra B 12 Year Old Single Barrel

I'd echo the comments from Joe and others about Ezra B 12 Year Old Single Barrel. Wonderfully rich and complex.

Re: BOTM 1/10 Weller 12 Year Old

Weller 12 has been generally unavailable in No. KY for most of the past year. Because of a shortage of aged stock, production was temporarily halted. A limited release was done a couple of months ago...
