Welcome!
Drink your whiskey the way you like it and make mental notes about what you're tasting. After awhile you may find that some members pick up the same things that you do but have different...
Jackson's is under the same ownershop or in some other way teamed up with Monument in Concord. They used to do barrels of Centennial, ORVW/Pappy 15, ORVW 10 and a couple others. In the north bay,...
I don't know what part of the Bay Area you're in, but there's a fairly low level in this area of bourbon knowledge amongst retailers. Plus, Fitz and Weller have never been the major labels that they...
We've found many instances where producers would "use up old labels" after the info was no longer completely correct. Also, in this age of computer inventory control (no longer the "key man") listing...
Welcome, Bourbon Rob
You're going to have to get busy if you want to earn your stripes like the old man, BourbonJoe :usflag:

Well, if we find that to be the case then...
Welcome to "Portland Bill" Samuels !!!
and if it's the other guy, then...
Welcome to "Lovejoy Bill" or "Glisan Bill" or whoever that other dude is.
Rittenhouse is a great place to start.
It's closer to bourbons than some, notably Sazerac Junior, a bit more refined than WT and not as quirky as the Beam yeast signature of the Beam Rye.

I see a new member by the name of Bill Samuels has just registered.
Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy your stay.

Uh-Oh............
I guess I wasn't really serious.
But I am still not going to point my pinkie finger while I drink out of the 1.75 liter handles. Fight the Power!

I've been told that in DC there are some combined distributor/retailers (I believe Ace is one, but I'm not sure), but I think they are rare elsewhere.

Oh, for the Carter years and gallon jugs of whiskey...
Fie on that evil Reagan and his Un-American obliterization of our beloved US sizes, tax stamps, "key men", and especially for his mandation...
Federal law requires that spirits be retailed in containers, not barrels. You can receive an empty barrel, but the spirits may not leave a bonded facility except in labeled bottles. (Barrels may be...
The most recent one I did was $65 retail for 131 bottles for $8,515. Wholesale was obviously less, and yes, taxes were a huge part of the cost (40%? more?).
Roger
WORST?
I would think you meant to say BEST!!!
Love that butterscotch....I bunkered up on Taylor 86s and Charter 7s from the 70s and 80s specifically for that reason.
And Tangle Ridge - I've...
Uh oh.
Looks like I posted a thread killer. Sorry.
Roger
I just spot checked some different Saz Jrs. from up to 4 years ago and didn't see a 6 anywhere. Was this on early labels? Where on the label would I spot it?
Roger
Take matters into your own hands: make friends with a liquor store owner, do the legwork for organizing a barrel, and make it happen.
That's how Willett started.
Roger
I had the experience of being in an aging warehouse and opening up barrels for some barrel purchase samples, and I dream of it since then.
It's every bit as good as you might dream it would be.

Oh, well if you're talking real mixed drinks I'm with you (I'll bring the Vya!).
But in my house there's a limit to how adulterated good whiskey is allowed to get before we break out the shaker...
Yep. Bad host.
But you're a good friend to share the best you have to offer, in a way it can be appreciated.
When company comes I always find that I'm ,unfortunately, out of ice, but I've got all...
If that is an older bottle of Beam and you haven't had pre-90s Beam during your bourbon enthusiast days I'd advise you get it, if it's a nominal price.
I've found the quality of Beam's lineup from...
I think you've got those thoughts nailed better than many long time enthusiasts. Trust your tastebuds, they're proving very good so far.
Roger
Buffalo Trace may be a good distillery for you, as their bourbons are not as rye-forward as some of the others. Here is a lineup of their brands.
