Sticky: Re: BOTM 2/13: Old Charter 101

Mystery solved. I think Charter 101 popped up after Sazerac took possession of the Charter brand from United in the late 90s (99?). There was a 7 year old charter Bottled-in-Bond for quite some time,...

I also like it, it isn't bad, to me, just that unique aged taste from el dorado rum.

joe, basically what sailor said. I describe it as a kind of musty, organic off-ness that's there, that sound about right?

    T Comp, that's a spectacular deal. I strongly prefer the ED15 over the 12.

Sticky: Re: BOTM 2/13: Old Charter 101

charter 101 was cheap, terrible stuff several years ago, but i think current production stuff is much better. I'm currently visiting my mom, and there is a bottle open here. actually a tasty whiskey,...

good buy, at that price. i never really got into barbancourt too much, sometimes seems to have less refined raw sugar cane notethat i find distracting.

i still strongly recommend el dorado,...

    Re: Rum Forum

Interesting. When I can find El Dorado 15 here, it runs 10 dollars MORE than the Zacapa. however, I prefer it to RZS23.

    Re: Rum Forum

Pyrat XO is about 2% orange extract. It's a great mixer, but not so good neat. I use it for a rum and coke when I'm in the mood for that orangey-ness, or as a sweetener in an old fashioned. You...

    Re: Rum Forum

There's nothing wrong with the current Zacapa 23, it's really good rum. It's just not as good as it was about 10 years ago. not buying it would be like saying you wouldn't buy a PVW15 from 2008...

    Re: Rum Forum

Squire, you should be able to get a bottle of El Dorado 12, 15, or Ron Zacapa 23 Solera somewhere near you for not too much. as an ingredient, the bottle will last for a very long time, and would be...

    Re: Rum Forum

yes, absolutely. in my personal experience El Dorado 15 and RZS23 seem to work the best. I'm out of RZS23 right now, but have a bottle of XO I got for about 50 bucks (too much, if you ask me). I'm...

    Re: Rum Forum

El Dorado, both the 12 and 15 years, are two of my favorites. RZS 23 is also high on the list and I buy it when it is on sale. I also have a bottle of Pyrat 1623 stashed away, along with a pistol and...

    Re: Introduction from Kansas

No problem- Enjoy the Rittenhouse! OWA and Ritt are two of my go-to's of the current, available stuff.

are those the screw cap beam's choice? if so, you're in for a treat. old beam decanters with corks SOMETIMES suffer (although not always, I've popped quite a few that were liquid golden),...

Re: Similar to Old Charter ??

Don't know how developed your taste in bourbon is yet, but a good one to move from from where you are is Eagle Rare single barrel. 10 years old, like you're looking for. 90 proof, same mashbill. A...

  24. Re: New to SB, Question about "Wild Turkey 12 Y.O. Beyond Duplication"

I haven't seen one go for 300 yet. a 12 year went on ebay the other day for 80 bucks. I'd consider paying that for one. It's good bourbon, of that there is no doubt. but there are others that are as...

Re: BOTM 11/10: Eagle Rare Single Barrel

Eagle Rare Single Barrel was, for a long time, my go-to bourbon. I've had bottles that were okay, and I've had bottles that were great. I once had a bottle that was so freaking good that I wrote down...
