    Re: Hello from Michigan

Zingermans Roadhouse is featuring a bourbon dinner in early July (10th...I think).

    Re: Hello from Michigan

Michigan isn't too bad. When I started enjoying bourbon I lived in North Carolina. At least I didn't have to make tough choices then.

    Re: Hello from Chapel Hill

I never had trouble finding the Van Winkles when I lived in Columbia SC. Though that was a few years ago. Having said that, I found a few bottles of the 15 when I passed through last summer.

    Re: Hello from Chapel Hill

Things loosen up a lot if you can get down to SC. I moved from Durham to Columbia in 03; the private stores south of the border often have a lot more interesting finds. Up here in MI is sort of in...

    Sticky: Re: BOTM 10/12: Larceny

I picked up a bottle on a trip to Ft Collins a week ago. Hard to beat with the $10 rebate. A nice addition to my shelf. But I wonder about the name. Is Larceny something that will sell? Or is the...

    Re: BOTM 10/10: Sazerac Rye

It doesn't have much of an edge to it, which I tend to like, but even so this is among my favorites. Especially good in a Sazerac cocktail.

    Re: BOTM 9/10: Booker's

Though I haven't had a bottle in several years, I have always enjoyed Bookers. Many restaurants will have it, though the bourbon selection may be limited, so it can be a good choice when I'm out. It...

Pretty good deluge we've had these last couple days. But the floodwaters in my yard are slowly starting to recede.

Another gathering would be good. How spread out are we - anybody got a tally? Is there a central location?

  13. Re: BOTM 2/10: Ezra Brooks-Ezra B 12 Year Old Single Barrel

I like this bourbon pretty well. I'll buy it occaisionally. But it's not nearly as interesting as its predecessor the 15 year old.

Well I'm down the road in Saline, moved here from South Carolina almost 4 years ago. There are a few places in town with good selections and generally better prices than A&L. Best to visit them all...

    Re: New from Raleigh NC

NC is not a bourbon paradise, the ABC system is pretty limited. A trip to SC, Columbia or Myrtle Beach, maybe Greenville would open things up a lot. The mom and pop stores in SC can be expensive, but...

I seem to recall it was in the $30s last time I was in the Chicago area - either at Sams or Binnys.

    Re: BOTM 2/09: Hancock's Reserve

It's expensive here in MI, about $50. I had a glass just one in a restaurant a couple months ago and found it very enjoyable, but haven't been willing to put out the money for a whole bottle.

    Re: n00b from Chapel Hill

The NC ABC system is gonna limit your selection. Do you ever go "south of the border" into SC? The private stores there open up the selection quite a bit.
