    Re: Hello from Detroit

Pick up a Four Roses Single Barrel and if you can find it an Old Rip Van Winkle 10yo 107prf, if not get an Old Weller Antique 107 and Wild Turkey Rare Breed is very good too.

Sticky: Re: BOTM 8/12: Eagle Rare 10 Year 101 Proof

Yep, the current Eagle Rare Single Barrel is flat and one dimensional, but when a bourbon virgin asks me what would be a good bourbon to start out on I always suggest Eagle Rare Single Barrel.
    It is...

You mean like this? I use a photo host website.
Ah yes, Baby Stagg, in the pic Lawrenceburg on the left and a 1 liter New Orleans on the right.
Eagle Rare 101 is George T Stagg cut to 101 proof....

Re: BOTM 5/11: Four Roses Yellow Label

Jim Rutledge has been lobbying Kirin to up the proof to 90 or at least 86.
Bars tend to stock 80 proofers over higher proofs for both profit and not to get the customers to intoxicated.

Sticky: Re: BOTM: 7/12 Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye

The Van Winkle rye is bourbonesque. Like the post before this one said, "...a very elegant whiskey".

    Re: BOTM 7/11: Maker's 46

    Re: Dry Bourbons

I would say Pappy 15yo is drier than ORVW.
The Old Rip can be toffee/caramel like, however I got one recently that wasn't good at all, maybe that release is what you were referring to.

As a matter of fact last week Mr Rutledge told us that he has been lobbying Kirin to go 90prf on the Yellow label or at least 86prf.

If you are looking for low priced bourbons go with Evan Williams (on the rocks) and WLWeller Special Reserve (neat).
