Raymond Loewy did a series of Old Forester bottles in an "I dream of Jeannie" vein you might like.

Re: Hey there from St. Joe, Mo

    Welcome!

Drink your whiskey the way you like it and make mental notes about what you're tasting. After awhile you may find that some members pick up the same things that you do but have different...

    Re: BOTM 8/10: Weller Centennial

Jackson's is under the same ownershop or in some other way teamed up with Monument in Concord. They used to do barrels of Centennial, ORVW/Pappy 15, ORVW 10 and a couple others. In the north bay,...

    Re: BOTM 8/10: Weller Centennial

I don't know what part of the Bay Area you're in, but there's a fairly low level in this area of bourbon knowledge amongst retailers. Plus, Fitz and Weller have never been the major labels that they...

Re: BOTM 7/10: Rittenhouse Rye BIB

We've found many instances where producers would "use up old labels" after the info was no longer completely correct. Also, in this age of computer inventory control (no longer the "key man") listing...

Re: BOTM 7/10: Rittenhouse Rye BIB

Rittenhouse is a great place to start.

It's closer to bourbons than some, notably Sazerac Junior, a bit more refined than WT and not as quirky as the Beam yeast signature of the Beam Rye.

    I guess I wasn't really serious.
But I am still not going to point my pinkie finger while I drink out of the 1.75 liter handles. Fight the Power!

Re: How much does a barrel of whiskey cost?

I've been told that in DC there are some combined distributor/retailers (I believe Ace is one, but I'm not sure), but I think they are rare elsewhere.

Re: How much does a barrel of whiskey cost?

Federal law requires that spirits be retailed in containers, not barrels. You can receive an empty barrel, but the spirits may not leave a bonded facility except in labeled bottles. (Barrels may be...

Re: How much does a barrel of whiskey cost?

The most recent one I did was $65 retail for 131 bottles for $8,515. Wholesale was obviously less, and yes, taxes were a huge part of the cost (40%? more?).

I just spot checked some different Saz Jrs. from up to 4 years ago and didn't see a 6 anywhere. Was this on early labels? Where on the label would I spot it?

Re: BOTM 3/09: Willett Single Barrel

Take matters into your own hands: make friends with a liquor store owner, do the legwork for organizing a barrel, and make it happen.

    That's how Willett started.

If that is an older bottle of Beam and you haven't had pre-90s Beam during your bourbon enthusiast days I'd advise you get it, if it's a nominal price.

I've found the quality of Beam's lineup from...

    Re: First Timer's Club

Buffalo Trace may be a good distillery for you, as their bourbons are not as rye-forward as some of the others. Here is a lineup of their brands.
