Re: dry tests / whiskey left out

The dry glass smell is part of the experience of enjoying Bourbon. A little less complex than the perfume from the night before but intriguing and almost always enjoyable.

Sticky: Re: BOTM 12/13: J.W. Dant BIB

Have never had one that was labeled as 113/113 without the "or 14 Fresno California". I would say it may have been corked but they all I have seen have those old style metal screw tops under the tax...

Sticky: Re: BOTM 12/13: J.W. Dant BIB

IMHO - The bottles labeled DSP 113 and bottled at DSP 113 or CA 14 Fresno California are excellent. Fruity and complex. The 2/16 is a good and a worthy pick up. I think the descriptions that have...

Re: So my brother-in-law drinks moonshine ....

Given my limited (ahem) experience most really inexpensive backyard shine is made from sugar. Some N. Ga product I have tasted was obviously corn based and tasted a lot like the corn whiskey you can...

Re: Brand new whiskey drinker here .....

That Tallahassee group Squire alludes to gets together nearly every Wed. evening at The Lounge cigar porch next to Market Square Liquors. Sometimes we have some interesting Bourbon to drink. :-)

Your right of course - life is too short to spend much time with skanky whiskey. Keep us posted on your explorations.

    Re: Differences in Bourbon Mouthfeel

Seems a Bourbon that impresses me with great mouth feel late in the evening (3rd or 4th pour) doesn't always have that same characteristic when it's the first pour a few days later.

    Anyone else...

    Re: Differences in Bourbon Mouthfeel

Agreed on the thick mouth feel as a desirable characteristic. Also curious what part of manufacture accentuates it and why it isn't used much in descriptions by manufacturers.

  24. Re: I just dumped a bottle of EC12 down the drain

A Manhattan might be an option. The Vermouth should mitigate the dry finish and the drink wouldn't be too sweet.

    Re: Newbie Palate Overload

All the above is good advice. Taking your time and drinking lots of water during comparative tastings is a good idea too. Tasting with a friend is more fun than tasting alone.
