Sticky: Re: BOTM 4/13: Old Grand Dad 114

Just finished a current OGD114. Sweet, caramel flavor profile, with a bit more spice than the ND style. I prefer ND, but some members like the current(Josh), and that's okay. I dig the current...

Sticky: Re: BOTM 11/13: Pappy 15

I agree with a lot of Aaron's points. For me, the last couple of releases have been a bit more "grainy" and have less of the decadent buttery and lush mouthfeel of years past. That said, I love the...

Re: Just joined - from Madison, Wisconsin

Milwaukee's a bit cheaper than Madison, but the state as a whole is generally cheaper than every state that touches our borders.

Re: Just joined - from Madison, Wisconsin

And in Madison, I would recommend Steve's in Fitchburg, and Riley's as being good Bourbon locations. (At Riley's, you have to walk upstairs to see the entire selection.)

Re: Just joined - from Madison, Wisconsin

    Welcome, fellow Cheesehead.

Actually, except for various Heaven Hill labels(The ones labeled Heaven Hill, not simply products from HH), we have access to most Bourbon. Wisconsin is actually...

    :lol::slappin:

With all due respect to Josh, I do love the old WT101Rye. Bought a case when it was going away, but like an idiot I'm down to 3 bottles. When I open a bottle, it goes fast. I don't...

Welcome fellow Badger! Glad you dove in. As for your "hundred fruitless dusty hunts," I can only offer my apologies.

Sticky: Re: Botm 1/13: Old Forester Signature

Current Signature is a solid enough Bourbon, IMHO. Nothing more, nothing less. While I didn't feel ripped off, there wasn't enough distinctiveness to make me drop $25 on another bottle.

    Dimpled...

Sticky: Re: BOTM 12/12: Jefferson's Presidential Select

My first experience was at 2011 Whiskey Fest Chicago. I was with another Bourbon nut, and very early on, right after we tasted thru the whole Van Winkle table, we hit the Jefferson's table. Trey was...

I actually had the bottle in my hand yesterday, but the town of "Clermont" on the label kept me from taking it to the check-out.

You said it tastes amazing, so you certainly should have opened the bottle. I open every dusty I get my hands on.

    Sticky: Re: BOTM 10/12: Larceny

I need to preface this by saying that I just received my bottle today, and I expect changes after it has been opened.

Lots of cinnamon and Red Hots, but lacking the creamy mouthfeel I expect from...

    Re: Wheaters vs. Rye

Well, Bernheim is about 51% Wheat, and the only "Straight" Wheat whiskey that I know of on the market. It tastes more of Wheat than a Wheater, which shows off more of the corn, rather than the wheat....

Re: Hello from Menomonee Falls, WI

Welcome neighbor! I would suggest trying OWA and OGD 114. Both may be had for under $25 at the Men. Falls Otto's. Also, if you find yourself at Ray's or Discount, pick up an Old Ezra 7yr 101 for...

Sticky: Re: BOTM 8/12: Eagle Rare 10 Year 101 Proof

Whenever I taste the current version, I'm always shocked that it's a 10yr. Drinks more like a simple 5 year with maybe a couple ounces of a 10yr thrown in for seasoning.

Sticky: Re: BOTM: 7/12 Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye

In my state, Rye and 15yr are the rarest of the rare. You never see them on shelves anymore, and if you have not already made relationships with retailers, forget about it.
