  1. Sticky: Re: BOTM 9/12: Evan Williams BIB AND Heaven Hill BIB

I noticed a few weeks ago that EW BIB is on the shelves in Michigan!

I'm going to grab a bottle and report back with my findings. I'm a big fan of the black label.

    Welcome, Harshest.

I live in Lansing, too. Drop me a PM if you ever want to come by and have a look at my modest collection.

My favorite store is Goodrich Shoprite on Trowbridge. The only...

    Re: Hello from Michigan

    Welcome!

My best advice: drink bourbon, not too much, 100 proof and over is better, start with an ice cube, put the last 50mls of your bottles into an empty mini bottle and save it for later.

Re: Hello, New guy from michigan

Good list, Tony. You're going to scare this guy off!

I would recommend two bottles to start: Elijah Craig 12 Year Old (MI Code 85136) and Weller Special Reserve (MI Code 92876). I...

    Re: Hi all from Indiana

    Hello and welcome.

This is a great place to learn.

What are your favorite bourbons right now? It's worth it to write them down so you can revisit the list in a year. I'd be surprised if half...

    Re: Hey new here

    Welcome!

If any are available in your area, I suggest you pick up a few cheap 100 proofers. They never disappoint.

  9. Re: New to Bourbon & Confused about PracticalWhisky.net

I have noticed that scotch drinkers like ER90 quite a bit. I think that might be why I've never cared for it (never met a scotch I loved). I like the bottle, though!

Re: Are mini bottles a reliable sample?

Excellent question. I've wondered about this myself.

Unfortunately, most of the bourbons I really "know" don't come in 50ml bottles.

    Re: Greetings from MI

Here's a list of my favorite 3-S bourbons (Soft/Simple/Sweet) available in MI:

Weller Special Reserve (I'm not crazy about the Antique 107)
Rebel Yell (don't let the name fool you)
    Evan Williams...

    Re: Another Michigander

They're all good. Don't get vintage envy!

I'd take ANY year of Stagg over any other barrel proof bourbon, and I really, really like all of the barrel proof bourbons.

    Re: Greetings from MI

No shame in starting with MM. Keep about a shot from that bottle...once you get into more bourbons, you'll want to revisit MM to see what your "baseline" used to be. I enjoy it, but I enjoy many...

If you have a good store nearby, I'd second Buffalo Trace and I'd also suggest Elijah Craig 12 Year Old. Both are within 5 bucks of each other. ...
