The canadian whiskeys are all blended, I would imagine that Crown Royal and Seagram's 7 are very different. I like crown royal, it's a summer afternoon drink for me. Mostly I drink Old Grand Dad 114,...

The Thirsty Traveler brought me here some time ago. Now I've got, what, 250 posts? Bourbon is fun!
Yeah, I don't think my wife really knows what we have. Let's see, I have Bookers, Old Grand Dad...
I drink everything with exactly three cubes of ice. Always. I find if I order it this way, i don't get a glass full of crushed ice with a hint of bourbon in it (happened in Vegas with a pour of...
I drink Bookers the same as every other bourbon I drink: with three cubes of ice. I find that I like the coolness of the bourbon and this is how I enjoy it. Products like Bookers and OGD 114 stand up...
Welcome to straight bourbon!
I don't think of England as cowboy country, but it is beautiful. I had a lot of great walks through the countryside when I was there.
Joel
Old Grand Dad 114.
Booker's.
Give those a try if you like strong bourbons.
Joel
Price. Hmmm.
I'm guessing it goes like this:
Maker's Mark
Knob Creek
Eagle Rare 10yo single barrel (90 proof)
Wild Turkey Rare Breed (not sure here, i've never bought this)
Van Winkel 12yo...
Welcome!
My family used to have a cabin in Old Forge, so I LOVE your name. Some of my very best memories of childhood involve the Adirondack mountains. Where is your shop?
My favorite bourbon...
You've started with two solid bourbons at a good price point.
I would also look for:
Elijah Craig 12 year old
Elmer T. Lee
Evan Williams Single Barrell
Old Grand Dad 114 (will give you a...
I really like the OGD 114. Excellent bourbon.
As for the loss of the 100 proof bourbons, I am wondering if the increase in demand for fine bourbon has resulted in the reduced proof. There is a...
Hmmm,
I tried to order this once, but when I ordered "Beam Black" they poured me a glass of Jack Daniels Single Barrell. I didn't complain :-)
I would love to know where some of you who like it...
Skip the Bulleit and get Elmer T. Lee as a nice bourbon that will be very different from the Rye of the Rittenhouse.
Joel
I would give a hearty recommendation to the Elijah Craig 18yo. It is my favorite bourbon. Extremely complex, it really stands out. My friend who isn't much of a bourbon guy but tries everything I...
My suggestion would be Evan Williams Single Barrel. It's mid 80's proof, very smooth, and a nice overall pour. I think you will find it's got a lot of flavor but not a lot of burn.
Joel
Welcome!
I am not familiar with that particular bourbon, but if you want to try a very complex bourbon that's not too expensive, go for a bottle of Elijah Craig 18yo.
Joel
I think Maker's Mark is the perfect place to start. It's a good baseline, it's a quality pour, and it's a great introduction to bourbon. You will, over time, find other bourbons you like better, but...
My recommendation for a first bottle would be Maker's Mark or Elmer T. Lee. Both are very nice bourbons that are good intros to the premium bourbon world but won't nuke your wallet.
Joel
Ever since the Thirsty Traveler raved about this stuff I wanted to try it, and about a year ago I picked up a bottle. I generally keep this for special occasions for obvious reasons. While in a side...
Another reasonably priced good introduction to bourbon is Maker's Mark. That's where I started. It isn't a world beater, but it's always a good pour and worth having around. If you want something...
So, what did you think of the EWSB?
Joel
My favorite bottle shape is Blantons. I loved the bottle for Woodford Reserve before I tasted it. It was a huge disappointment for me.
Joel
Your list doesn't include my two favorite bourbons: Elijah Craig 18 yo and Blanton's. Give one or both of them a try.
Joel
My favorite scotch is Macallan 18, but that's rather pricey. Another scotch you should try is Laophraig 10. Not too expensive, and very, very different. It's a peat bog in a glass!
You really need...
I used to drink Johnny Walker Black & JD. I then tried Glenmorangie 12 yo Sherrie Wood Cask, which is quite good. Maker's Mark got me started on bourbon. So I think I had a pretty similar profile as...
Elijah Craig 18 year old - A way to try another old bourbon at a very reasonable price. Still my favorite pour.
Bookers - Gotta have at least one barrel proof bourbon.
