Am I imagining things, or would an '86 bottle have a better taste even if it is the 90 proof?

There has been speculation around here that MM is younger and is distilled at a higher proof than a decade or two ago.
Of course there is no comment on this from MM but people that have drank it for long time seem to think this is the case.
If this is true than it may be worth while to dig up an early '80's or older bottle.
