Looking to learn from all of you, share my learning curve, successes and failures. I have started with the basics...books, this forum and moderately priced bourbons. As I progress I will be sure to share.

Any tips, tricks, or education you can offer will be very much appreciated.

If you think you'd like wheat, grab a Weller -- the Special Reserve is very well priced, and will give you an idea about what wheat is about. Of course, you could pay double for the Maker's.

Welcome aboard Dave. Glad to have you. Like funknik said try Weller SR. It's a good place to start. IMHO all the Weller bourbons are good. I was like you when I joined SB. I thought I preferred wheaters. At first, I shied away from most bourbons with a rye mashbill. Don't sell yourself short. There are some awfully good bourbons out there you could miss out on. The folks here are great about answering questions and helping out. The amount of knowledge and experience here is unbelievable. Don't hesitate to post at all. Jump right in with questions, comments, experiences or whatever. Looking forward to your participation. Joe

I really appreciate the warm "family like" welcome. I am VERY open minded and have the funds to try as many as I can get my hands on.

On my way home from work I pass a bottle king, liquor depot, and a Gary's fine spirits. They are all the HOME depot of liquor.

Bottle king has about 50 different varieties and Gary's has even more...possibly double.

I am a travelling guy for a hotel company and travel the US on a weekly basis on the road about 48 weeks out of the year. So I will be experimenting from the different places I can find unique mixes.

So...between the stores on my way home from work and the travelling....I plan on buying a different bottle EVERY WEEK.

I am VERY excited to become a part of this fine, RARE community.

P.S. I try to steer away from the "norm" when it comes to buying wine, beer and now bourboun. I like names that are rare and hard to find. So...I will keep everyone updated as to my purchases and give short but honest reviews.

I am looking for a "special" bourboun glass to call "my own" that is unique to enjoy my spirits out of.

Any suggestions?

Go get your own personalized Glencairn... they can engrave them... best glass on the market for bourbon IMHO...

...and from another road warrier to another... keep you eyes open for hole in the wall liquor stores to find that special dusty.

Picked up Blantons Silver Reserve and Knob Creek "Small Batch" 9 year tonight on the way home from work. I will let you know how it goes.
