Hello from Connecticut

A warm hello on a cold, snowy day in Connecticut.
I toured Jim Beam and Heaven Hill a few months back and decided to learn more about bourbon. I came across this great site, and after lurking for a little bit, I'm happy to have finally signed up.

I'm a complete newbie and have learned quite a bit just by reading these forums. I started with a goal of trying different bourbons that cost under $30 and could be found locally. So far, here's what I've purchased and tried.

Buffalo Trace
Evan Williams Single Barrel 1998
Knob Creek
Maker's Mark
Old Weller Antique 107

I've enjoyed all of these, though I prefer the wheaters. What's interesting is that I found something about the Buffalo Trace I really liked.

Here are other bottles I recently purchased and look forward to trying soon.

Four Roses Small Batch
W. L. Weller Special Reserve

I think you've got a nice spread of first bottlings to try. I'm glad that you're focusing on the high value, mid shelf instead of the high end collectors or the low end.

Once you've got a lot of flavors under your belt, you will no doubt stray into the higher and lower ends, but mostly that's for when you're more looking for what the full breadth of the bourbon experience can offer, not just trying to get some good juice. The higher end is different and more woody, but the higher end isn't necessarily 'better' than what you've been buying.

Welcome to the site.. . I aggree, nice spreed. You migh consider adding a WT RB or KS to your collection. That woudl fill it out nicely with a little of everything that is out there...
