Empty Bottle Support Group Summer '09

Last night I put down my first bottle of Wathen's. Not a bad pour. I got it for $21 and I can get another for about $23 now so I think it will be replaced. I also killed an ORVW 10/107 which was fantastic as usual. Only 2 more bunkered... starting to rethink this one as the prices have gone through the roof @ $39.99/750ml. I used to get this for $28 when I stocked up a case.

Had company in over the weekend so several bottles took a hit. To the recycle bin went:

Guess it's time to go shopping again. I need som ER and 4RSmB but I've been wanting a Blantons for some time also.

I had to bid farewell to bottles of Ancient Ancient Age 10, Pappy 15 and Rare Breed this past weekend. Lots of grins drinking 'em though, so I don't mind. Will slowly start in on my bottle of WT12 CGF but will hit the OGD114 at full throttle.

Finished off a couple of odds and ends I had open. Said bye bye to a 1992, 200 ml of Old Fitz Prime, and a 375 Old Forester Repeal. Joe

Recent empties (the last couple of weeks) are 200's of Heaven Hill 6yo BiB and gold label BIB, a 200 of Very Old Barton, the last two pours of a Curtis/Hightower FRSB and a WTKS pewter top.

What did you think of the Repeal Joe? I had one bottle and i think it was the worst tasting whiskey ive ever bought! It had an extreame licorish taste that i thought was gross, i let other ppl finish it for me, at least i got a free glencairn out of it

Jon, I thought the Old Forester Repeal was okay. Not great. Not bad, but an okay pour. I got a medicinal, acetone taste, but I can see how it could be characterized as licorice. I have some older bottles of Old Forester. I can taste hints of it in the Repeal bourbon. The Repeal just doesn't have the earthiness and depth of the early 90's bottlings. Joe

A bottle of Michter's Small Batch (7K-11) cashed in tonight. Very tasty.

A tear is shed, as I drop a Handy bottle into the......no.....I will not say that tra#$ word for this beautiful bottle. Tra#$, demeans it. I will not do it. Rather, I laid to rest, this fine rye.
I thoroughly enjoyed the last couple of ounces, char included. It's the best part! The pour in my glass, was as dark as coal. Peppermint, surprisingly sweet, and flavor that went on forever.
The Handy rye may be the best offering from BT's star-studded line-up.

I feel your pain, and agree in saying Handy is my fav from BT.
