Blanton's Bourbon not available in the U.S.???

Howdy All:

I hope you are well.

Looking around it seems like maybe the only difference in the different Blanton's is the Proof. Is this true?

I am in Germany this week and a place by me has the Special Reserve, The Silver, and The Gold. Is there any reason I should pick up one or all of these? I am still new at the bourbon thing and really like the Pappy's and I have enjoyed the regular Blanton's.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The difference is the proof, but don't be put off by that. A higher proof bourbon can have taste notes very different from the 80 proof version. Of the version you mention, the Gold should be the highest proof and they one I would buy.

I was thinking about this today as my sister is coming back to the states via. HK and the Blantons was the only thing that I was interested in on the duty free site.

I have tasted the Special Reserve and it was good, but I think it was a little expensive for an 80 proofer, I would go for the Silver or the Gold!

Cask Proof is actually the highest proof of Blanton's. There is some confusion between the SuperGold (labeled Gold) vice the "regular" gold. Unfortunately, no one seems to know indefinitely. There are a couple threads in the Premium Bourbon forum on the topic for more information.

Either way, buying a gold (of any type) while overseas should provide you with a really nice bourbon that you can't get in the US.
