Urban myth. That, or the consensus group is using the wrong insurance companies.

My insurance company knows I keep a lot of spirits in the house. When I called to insure my stash, they didn't balk at its value or the quantity of spirit. They kindly informed me that they are happy to insure my "personal property" and told me that should I ever suffer a loss, they will issue me a check for the replacement value and acquisition costs.

The representative and later the policy underwriter both informed me that insuring a large amount of limited availability spirits was not uncommon. I was also given additional documentation that stated should a loss due to fire occur, that my spirits would not prevent the resolution of a claim.

Virus_Of_Life's response in this thread indicates much the same as my post, here.

Re: Show Us Your Stash -- Volume 3.0 (The Subliminal Verses)

So I have only been at this for about 9 months now and my stash is not nearly as impressive as some of the others posted, but I figured I might as well share.

Unfortunately, over the last 9 months I have learned that I have an expensive pallet. (Hopefully my wife never finds out I blew the money for our mud room remodel on bourbon! ) Oh how I long for the days when a Maker's in Coke would be more than adequate! I blame you Bourbon Boiler!!!!!

BroInBourbonMD, yes quite impressive for nine months. When the bug bite, it takes control. I also have an expensive pallet or a more selective pallet as well so understand your pain or joy!

    Cheers

Very nice! I wish I could source that much of the EH Tornado. I often see it around but most shops here want $100 a bottle for it. I'm dreading the day my bottle runs dry, I've enjoyed it quite thoroughly.
