I will be trying the Zacapa 23yo in the not too distant future. I saw it locally for around $30, cant beat that price IMO.

My favorite two reasonably priced sipping rums are Flor de Cana Gold and Brugal Anejo. The Flor de Cana is a steal.

Flor de Cana Grand Reserve is a great sipper, dark, sweet (but not overly sweet) with nice molasses flavor. Gold is a great mixer. Rhum Barbancourt 8 yr is also very good. All well prieced under $25, and gold should be under $20.

    http://cocktails.about.com/od/rumrev...ruzan-Rum-.htm

The article states that Cruzan Single Barrel uses bourbon barrels (most from Jim Beam) and that they impart a slight bourbon flavor.

Sounds like a nice one to try.

    How about: http://www.crownwineandspirits.com/p....aspx?vid=1596

    Pussers....the single malt of rum...84 proof..hmm.

Jmac stated on the Fine Rum thread:

"For long time bourbon drinkers..try something heavier like Pussers, Sea Wynde, or Banks XM etc."

Cruzan Single Barrel is excellent and always scores high in blind tastings.

Sailor Jerry hands down. I'll never buy any other rum. Everyone who tries it in my home falls in love with it. It's unique, it's delicious, and it's a bargain to boot. Oh, and it's 92 proof.

Man-o-Man! this thread has me drooling like a hound dog in a cow pond. I like Prichards rums. They remind me of a smooth cognac. I visited their distillery, set up in an old school house, and like thier handmade small batch style. They use table grade molasses instead of blackstrap. That makes it more expensive to produce and the result is a smooth, lightly sweet rum.

Not everybody likes the style. if you can secure one of their 375ml bottles you can give it a try and if it doesn't suit your taste then use it on all those fruitcakes you get during the holidays to improve the fruit cake's palate and mouthfeel.......

I picked up a Kraken Black Rum today but have not yet opened it. Can anyone tell me what to expect?

I haven't tried it yet but I've heard it is better than Goslings and compares to Cruzan Blackstrap. I'm curious to know myself so when you crack it open, please let us know your impression.

    Re: Got good sipping rum

Myers's (the regular dark rum) is a rich-tasting rum which the label states is pot distilled. Bourbons and malt whiskies are distilled at a low proof associated with pot still production (even though most bourbon is not pot-stilled of course), and you can see the connection, Myers's has a heavy-bodied, rich taste. Great for neat sipping or on the rocks. There are many fine rums mentioned in this thread but IMO you get a great quality with Myers's at a price far less than many of those.
