Re: Anyone try the new Mckenzie rye whiskey?

Thanks, just first impressions but it was not what i was expecting for a younger rye - drinks much older, at least that is my initial reaction.

I've only seen this in NY and NJ ... so us thirsty bunch in the Northeast might be sopping it up ... best to look online for a shop in NY?

I believe it's distributed in the Chicago area. I haven't been up there recently to look for it, though.

I definitely get some rye bread notes on it still as it shows its youth. But the nicely integrated sweetness that is also present is likely the sherry finish and keeps the rye bread bite in check a bit.
That yella whiskey runnin' down my throat like honey dew vine water and I took another slash…

On day 2, I am getting more rye spice than last night ... of course I had some Vindaloo and hour ago, so that could be it as well ...

The sherry does round off the spice, and tonight I do get some of the rye bread on the finish that you mention.

I think the mouthfeel is superior to other ryes in the $20-$40 range I've had and enjoy on a more or less regular basis (WTR101, Ritt BiB, Baby Saz, Bulleit Rye).

It's definitely in Chicago. Binnys has a bunch.
