First Dirty Look From Wife

I got my first whiskey-purchasing-related dirty look / snide comment from my wife this weekend! I guess I should clarify the title to this post, I have had plenty of non-whiskey related dirty looks. I found EC12 for $16 and brought home 4 bottles.
Her: "You don't even have room for those on your shelf" (I currently have a shelf on a small bookshelf in the living room with 7-10 bottles).
Me: "I'm going to bunker these in the basement. It's too good of a price to pass up."
Her: "bunker? in case there is a nuclear war?"
Me: " . . ."
Her: [dirty look].

In all seriousness though, she is fine with it, just giving me some well-deserved crap.

I think the best defense is a good offense (not to be confused with offensive). My wife has a few areas of interest in which she collects things. I try to be on the lookout for something she might like and hide it until the time is right. Then if one of those can't pass it up bargains appears at one of the local liquor outlets I can pull out the scorn diffuser. Sometimes it actually works. Just a thought. Proceed with caution.

I really don't share my purchases with my wife I just take them downstairs and put them in the cabinet. She does not pay attention to what is in there so I don't have to worry about increasing inventory.

I did tell her a few weeks ago I was going to the store to buy some booze and she asked "what about all that stuff you have in the basement". I explained to her how most of that was either out of production, not available in our state, limited release or a combination of the three.

She just said "ohh, ok" and that was that.

I've tried that approach too. It worked for me until there was no more room in the house for her stuff she drug home from yard sales. I think I'll supplement my stealth mode with the Scorn Diffuser.

I know that look. It sure takes the joy out of a good dusty hunt.

The next time that happens, turn right around, walk out, and come back several hours later with a new big screen TV. She'll forget all about the EC12.

My collection of bottles has grown quickly over the last few months. I keep waitin' for the wife to say something, but she's been cool so far. She had been wanting a new cabinet for the home office so I went and bought her one. Ain't got many books in it so far, but it's making one darn fine liquor cabinet for the moment!

First dirty look from the wife. Now thats funny. Probably the first of many. You know it's getting a little better when it's just a mild look of disdain. That may take a couple years or more though.

At first I really liked your idea Chuck. Then I got to thinking about it. It would probably only lead to more dirty looks. I can just see people being accused of planning various sordid bourbon undertakings in our meetings. Dusty hunts, trades, case purchases, barrel purchases, etc....
