New from Jeremiah Weed

While browsing the aisle in one of my "local" liquor shops, I saw 2 new-ish items:

Jeremiah Weed Blended Bourbon Whiskey, 90 proof (has the same label colors as the original Jeremiah Weed Bourbon Liqueur, 100 proof) AND

Jeremiah Weed Cherry Mash Blended Bourbon Whiskey, 90 proof (with label colors matching those of Red Stag, surprise, surprise)

JW only has websites for the original liqueur (http://www.jeremiahweedbourbon.com)
and for their Sweet Tea flavored Vodka (http://www.jeremiahweed.com) which is also available mixed with lemonade or premixed with bourbon!

I've been reading the regs trying the discern the difference between bourbon liqueur and blended bourbon. So far all I know is: the liqueur has at least 51% bourbon and 2.5% sugar, the blend has at least 51% straight bourbon, and I have a headache.

I've noticed this brand in many expressions at my local store. I haven't bought any and haven't seen or heard any tasting notes. Has anyone tried this brand?

The liqueur has been around forever and is comparable to Southern Comfort.

The others are brand new. Obviously, Diageo saw something in the marketplace that said Weed was a brand they could build on.

I can see where Jeremiah Weed might develop a cult following. It's a little like Prichard's Sweet Lucy for duck hunters. Soldiers used to drink soju with fruit juice and a watery yogurt to reach heightened levels of philosophical thought and drooling. We used to take shots of Underberg and Jagermeister with the mistaken belief that it helped us speak better German. Maybe that was because the cute waitress kept telling us to drink more because we were getting easier to understand (and less able to count our Deutsch Marks.)

Everyone should have a ritual and drinking should be a major part of it.

I learned Portuguese drinking cachca with a bunch of Brazilian engineers. Same story. Although I don't recall, there must have been a cute waitress. It certainly wasn't the engineers.

Vodka & Bourbon Whiskey". What the hell is that supposed to be?!

This is a Diageo brand which they seem to think has some legs, as they've been trying a lot of new drink formulations using the Jeremiah Weed brand. They launched a Sweet Tea Vodka some time ago, but throwing in some bourbon is a different wrinkle.

If it contains at least 20% bourbon they can call it blended whiskey, so maybe it doesn't contain even that much, or maybe it does and they just thought "vodka and bourbon" sounded more appealing. Essentially, though, it's a flavored blended whiskey.
