Weller 12 in the new bottle. Arrived today via UPS. Reminds me a lot of Lot B without the citrus notes. I've been impressed by the new bottles of Weller.

Color: Dark Amber. Legs form pretty quickly. About 1mm, 5-10mm apart.

Nose: Brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, as expected. Somewhere in the back is a green apple aroma. Again, it reminds me of Lot B in it's fruitiness, but it's not the same fruit. Interesting.

Taste: Sweet. The apple shows up big time, then honey and vanilla.

Finish: Surprisingly long for 90pf. A little dry at first, fading to a nice oak and brown sugar that lingers for quite a while.

Overall, I'm very glad to have scored 6 bottles. I would like them to, but I doubt they will last long. Just over $30/bottle. Not a bad bargain when you factor in availability.

Tonight I am enjoying a recently purchased Elijah Craig 12 Yr that could pass for Vintage 17. Does anyone know if there is any connection between the two? Elijah Craig 12 Yr has a reputation for being inconsistent and I must admit I have never previously thought that EC12 tastes like Vintage 17. I do like this bottle very much.

I can't speak to any similarity to the Vintage 17, as I've never had the V17, but, I can speak to the quality of EC12. Interestingly enough, I have been marveling over the EC12 this evening, while listening to the Braves on the radio. It is truly, a fantastic and inexpensive pour. Every bottle (there have been many...) that I've purchased has been stellar. This one included.

Did some comparison tasting between a 107 proof ORVW with 08 on the bottle bottom (cut down to 90 proof) and a Louisville labelled Special Reserve from 95. Contrasting the two helped me pick up in the ORVW, traces of the same peanut oil nose and taste, that to me, dominates some of the first made Bernheim-DSP 1 Old Fitz BIBs from 2000 and 2001....so I'm speculating, guessing and surmising Bernheim barrels make up this particular ORVW. I finished with a dash of Frankfort Centennial that blows both of these away or is it just that the last of the night tastes the best?

The only respectable pour was Four Roses Single Barrel again. Man, baked apples and chocolate on the nose at first. That faded to more standard notes. On the taste was a rich buttery caramel apple, with some light spice and wood.

    Strange bottle this one is.
