I have Hotalings Essay 1996-2006 and while the juice may be 100 proof, single distillery, and single season I see nothing on the labels that says bond.

Did you mean bond in the same sense as the Old Forester Signature - where it probably is but the distillery didn't want to label it as such?

I've attached the current flyer for this from their website. I was skeptical so I searched and found this that says, "Bottled In Bond" on the top right area of the label. Perhaps earlier releases were not.

Colonel Lee BIB has been discontinued for several years now. It was avaliable in nearly every liquor store in Ohio at one time. Another BIB that has come and gone from Ohio's stores is Kentucky Tavern BIB. I don't know if it is still available or not!

    Interesting.
Attached is a photo of the 11yo. You can see Fritz added the bond statement sometime between the 11yo and the 15yo.

A bond has to be 100 proof, at least 4-years-old, and the product of a single distillery and a single distiller made during a single distilling season. The "singles" are the reason you can have a 100 proof whiskey that is not bonded.

Old Forester Signature, for example, is 100 proof but can't be labeled bottled-in-bond because it includes whiskey from different distilling seasons. (The year is divided into two seasons.)

I understand the rules and Four Roses manufacturing process. What DQ's FRSB from being a bond?

I would imagine that, to them, Single Barrel>Bottled-in-Bond from a marketing standpoint.
