Howdy! Another Texan here.

Howdy folks! I have been reading the boards for a while and decided to join in. I am from the Houston area and started drinking Scotch seriously about 6 years ago. The high cost of Scotch caused me to revisit some of the bourbons of my youth in the 80's and I discovered that I like bourbon and rye better. I am looking forward to picking the brains of the experts here.

With bourbons in general I prefer the wheated variety, but I love rye whiskey especially the 95% ryes from LDI (Willet and Bulliet).

A few of my faves (stuff I can get easily):
WT 101 (my go to in any bar)
Weller SR
OWA
Weller 12 (my favorite)
Bulleit Rye
Willet Rye
WT Rye 101

On the darkside as you folks call it...

Better stock up on the WT 101 rye while it's still around.

Thanks! yeah I just saw the thread on WT Rye 101. Scary...although Chuck Cowdery seems sure that it is not going away. Just to be safe I know a store that has six bottles..

I'm out in Arlington. On the 'dark side', I am fond of the 1975 Glenrothes 30-year old. Good thing I have six bottles, as those puppies are EXPENSIVE.

welcome! we have pretty similar tastes. i drank a lot of scotch in my younger days but these days, i focus on bourbon and rye. i still enjoy ardbeg, laphroaig, lagavulin and talisker once in a while (usually when it gets chilly/cold - at least for texas).
