SPLURGE: Handy, High West 21, Rittenhouse 23

I purchased:
Jim Beam Rye for 15 €

I guess, in dollar it is sligthly less.

Found a store today with 5 bottles of Handy at $97. Sorry if this post beaks any rules on pricing, but it is my first time finding anything in that caliber. Worth the price? Most of the other posts I have seen has it listed in the 60-80 range. Btw, they did have a Pappy 23 for $350. That as out of my range for sure.

I wouldn't buy it at that price. There is a fair amount of it around, in fact I'm pretty sure there is some of last year's still on the shelf here in the Twin Cities.
I have enough trouble justifying $70 for a six-year-old, even if it is unfiltered/uncut.
Especially given that you could run across the river to the Party Source and get the Abraham Bowman Rye for $72 and from the same source, but 10 years old, if memory serves.
Briskly an Timd thanks for helping out the FNG. I am new to some of these brands but read a lot about the BTAC stuff and was happy when I finally ran across one. I figured it was way too high but was still tempted. I spent most of the afternoon running through Newport, Covington and southeastern Indiana trying to find either a younger PVW or something from the BTAC collection. Glad I resisted. I assume that is why they still had 5 bottles on the shelf. I did run across a Ritt 21 that tempted me as well. I think I hit 16 stores in all today. Ended up with a Ritt BIB, Weller 12, Weller antique and an Ezra B 12. Not quite the score I was looking for, but glad I got some things I have never tried before.

As a brand new rye lover, I can't believe Bulleit gets no love. If there's lots of bottles better than that in a reasonable (<$60) price range I may just end up never buying anything but rye whiskey!
If you're gonna be a lamb, you might as well be a sheep.
I recently discovered the Bulleit at a local jazz bar. Ordered one neat, loved it, ordered a second. Bought a bottle the next day for about $22. I really enjoy that stuff. Then last week I tried again with Rittenhouse BIB and found a wonderful tasting bottle for $18.99. Where the Bulleit is perhaps less complex, it's more ALL-rye tasting and very sippable and enjoyable, the Rittenhouse is more complex, more full bodied, very strong rye, but has more of a bourbon experience going on as well, which I QUITE enjoy. Both of these seem to present the "rye" flavor in a similar way, but the Ritt has more other stuff going on that I think I enjoy a bit more. But man, the Bulleit is very tasty and pleasant stuff, highly recommended.
I hope to dive into some of this High West stuff soon and see what that's all about. But for affordable and very good ryes, I think Bulleit and Rittenhouse are top choices for sure.
