just curious why there isn't a trade forum on here like they have on ratebeer and beeradvocate...i thought that'd be a good way for members to acquire htf bottles and sample new bourbons...

I think because in some cases, depending on the state, that is still considered bootlegging.

It's legal for me to order wine and beer from out of state stores for delivery to me here in Oregon. It is not legal for distilled spirits.

In that light though it's illegal for an individual to ship beers as well. It's just an issue that generally gets ignored.

Just because this can of worms has already been opened, and I can not have the stuff shipped to me from a retailer, how is it usually packaged when it arrives, in places where it is legal?

Dense foam, expanding foam in a sturdy box?

The policy for this forum in described in the link and is the final word.

The law behind it is that it is illegal to sell beverage alcohol of any kind without a license. Trading is the same as selling. Depending upon what one actually does, one could be prosecuted for several different federal and state offenses, some misdemeanors, some felonies.

There have been many discussions about different aspects of this over the years on this forum.

As for legal sales and legal shipment of spirits, common carriers such as UPS and FedEx do it all the time. Most of the packages I receive have a big sticker on the outside of the package stating that it contains alcohol and an adult signature is required. The shipper has to be licensed but I don't think the carriers worry about the laws at the receiving end. That's the shipper's problem. It's not the shipment of alcohol the states prohibit, it's mail order sales.
