just curious why there isn't a trade forum on here like they have on ratebeer and beeradvocate...i thought that'd be a good way for members to acquire htf bottles and sample new bourbons...

You may be interested in what has been suggested and talked about in the collectibles forum too. Some more interest by fellow SBers could only help the already big and crotchety legs of Mr. Cowdery in carrying on with this proposal.

One of my suggestions for improving the Kentucky Bourbon Festival is "Get a law passed allowing whiskey collectors (legal age only, of course) to have a legal and above board swap meet. It would be a natural extension of the existing Master Distiller's Auction."

If not sure how difficult this would be, legislatively, but it should be a state law matter. The feds need not be involved.

Well, collectors, if the KBF was able to run a legal whiskey collectors show, where you could display your collection and make deals with other collectors, would you be interested in that? Would it get you to attend the KBF when you otherwise would not?

There hasn't been much interest in this since I suggested it in August. I have talked to Eric Gregory, President of the Kentucky Distillers Association about it and he seemed to like the idea too. The Festival, which KDA co-sponsors, would have to figure out how to do it legally, which might require some legislation, so KDA is the outfit to work on that. Mr. Gregory seemed to think it was not completely outside the realm of possibility.

Mr. Gregory, by the way, is staff, but the KDA changes its board leadership every year. The new chairman is John Rhea of Four Roses Distillery, the vice chairman is Jeff Conder of Beam Global, and the Secretary-Treasurer is Tom Krekeler of Campari (Wild Turkey). The other board members are Chris Morris (Brown-Forman), Andrea Wilson (Diageo) and David Hobbs (Heaven Hill).

If you think this is a good idea, let the KDA know.

I would also encourage anyone who thinks it's a good idea to help flesh-out the idea here with comments to this thread.

By the way, I can't be on the KDA board of directors unless one of the member companies wants to hire me as its representative. The board is one representative each from the six member companies.

Ship me a few cases of high end stuff and I will provide a definitive legal answer as to liquor shipments to your State. Of course, the contents would have to be opened and examined for authenticity and the like, but in the event the answer is in the negative any unused evidence will be returned through proper channels.
