Best place to buy bottled whisky in Vegas?

A group of friends and I will be in Las Vegas August 8th-10th of this year and we have pooled together a bit of money to purchase a great bottle of whisky that we can share.

The group is of varying tastes but we aren't specific in what type we are looking to purchase, mostly that we buy the best whisky with the money we have pooled.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice/recommendations on where to go to purchase a bottle of whisky in the $800 to $1100 dollar range and maybe some recommendations on what to purchase?

Man, that's a lot of money to spend on a single bottle...it it were my money I'd grab a couple bottles of Pappy 15 or 20 and call it a night. IMO there isn't a finer bourbon being produced today that's semi available.

You could grab a couple bottle of bourbon, Irish, Scotch, and Canadian and see what kind of whisky fans you really are.

Bourbon would be:

Pappy 15 or 20
Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye

Irish would be:

Redbreast 12 or 15
Jameson 18
Bushmills 16 or 1608

Scotch: (no expert here)

Highland 18
Macallan 18

Canadian:

Crown Royal Cask 16
Crown Royal XR

If you're really looking for a single bottle in that price range this should probably be moved over to the foreign whisky section since you aren't going to find any bourbon at that price (or if you do it's a ripoff).

Bottles in that price range that you might find would be 30 YO's from Macallan, Lagavullin, or Balvenie. I also notice that Binny's had a 37 YO Bowmore in the price range. I'm not sure where in Vegas you would find this level of scotch, but you might want to think about finding it before your Vegas trip from one of the bigger retailers who would actual carry this quality of whisky.

Since you are want to splurge on the high end, I would recommend a strategy somewhere between your single bottle and Bob's picks. I would seriously think about getting 3 to four bottles.

If you have super peat freaks, you might replace either the Caol Ila or the Highland Park with an Octomore

In terms of where to go, Lee's Discount is the best IMO. They will have an excellent choice of high-end whiskeys of all kinds. Pick up some good bourbon at regular prices while you're there too, e.g., Four Roses Single Barrel, or Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, or Elijah Craig 18 years old.

If you guys are really looking to blow money, then why not find a Port Ellen bottling. It's the silent Islay distillery, and it's been silent for awhile, which makes any Port Ellen bottling quite pricey.

But I agree with the others. Just having a high dollar amount won't get you the "best," it will just get you the most expensive.

One bottle with a group of friends is no fun, no matter what it is. We could suggest things all day. I say research the store with the best selection (which you seem to be doing), and plan on spending it all in one place.
