Last night at Desha's I had a Pappy Van Winkle 20yo with a nice piece of medium-rare beef tenderloin. I'm not sure a better combination exists anywhere![]()
VWFR Rye, The balance of flavor and proof is most
appealing to me.I drink it with a splash of water.

Old Grand Dad BIB. This is a great, "I've had a bad day" bourbon. The 100 proof quiets the pain, while the rye kick reminds you that if you can handle this, you can take on the world!
I can think of a combination or two, but then again, I might get moderated.![]()
Hope tomorrow turns out better for you. But, if it doesn't, and you need a stronger kick, Stagg will do you right.![]()
Surprise visit from the Regional VP. "Dropped in" on his way from Michigan to Nashville. I'm celebrating my survival with Sushi and a Woodford Manhattan. Now let's see. What goes with Red Bean Ice cream?![]()

A very good night, with a good pace of different bourbons throughout the evening.
After work, I sat on the back porch with a book and ORVW 10 yo. Supper was ready, I left the book and ORVW on the porch and picked up the rest of the original ORVW pour for dessert and knocked off a couple more chapters.
The neighbors gathered next door in the driveway. I waited awhile to have another. But, my neighbor was smoking a Macanudo, so when he went for another beer, I picked Stagg to stand up to the smoke.
A little while later, they all wanted bourbon after taking a whiff of the Stagg, so I brought out Buffalo Trace and we all had a drink before closing it out for the night.
To some young folks, this may seem boring, but for me at my stage in life, it was a very fine evening.
That may sound boring to some...but to me it sounds like a great relaxing evening. I'm doing pretty much the same thing...sipping on some Old Fitz 12yr....except indoors because here in Dallas its 94 degrees and 10:00 at night!!

Any weather is bourbon weather.
We've had a cooler and wetter than usual May this year (highs in the 70s) so last night was a nice dry 70 degrees after sunset. The cigars kept the bugs away. It's amazing that last May was just the opposite - warmer than normal (highs in the 90s) and severe drought.
