Bourbon in the morning

So I don't exactly make it a habit to drink early, but ever so often I will have a pour before noon.

I've noticed that everything taste so delicious! It's like night and day sometimes.

Has anyone else ever noticed this? I will have the same pour much later that evening and it will often fall flat. But in the morning, almost anything I have sings.

Got me to thinking, if there was a actual reason behind it. Palate fatigue?

side note: Pappy 15 has never ever tasted better then in the morning. It takes my breathe away.

I think this is fairly well known, among the pros, anyway. From Charles MacLean's article at whiskymag.com on nosing and tasting:

I agree, I'll ocasionally have a taste on Sunday morning after breakfast and a few or four cups of coffee.
It does seem to taste great.
As a matter of fact from now on when I get something new in I am going to make a point of getting to know it in the early morning.

with my wife I am limited to the amount of times I can do this without raising an eyebrow..

perhaps I will simply starve to preserve my palate?

I get up around 3 AM every day (not my job, just old habit) and I've been known to have a taste around 9 AM. It's re-assuring to know that I may be a 'professional' taster

I taste wine for a living, and yes, your palate is always best between breakfast and lunch.

As for AM Whiskey, I tend to prefer the spicy, high-tones of Rye for breakfast, Rye-recipe Bourbon is for lunch, and Wheaters are for dinner, IMHO.

My wife works on Sundays. If I'm not doing anything too serious, I'll have a nice pour in the early AM. It really does taste better then.
