Fortune's "100 Great Things About America"

This is the second year they have done a list like this. I really don't care much for Fortune magazine, but they do have the occasional report on corporate corruption, etc that I find entertaining and some decent business management ideas/interviews. Anyway......at number 2 The Interstate Highway System......I agree with that one whole heartedly being a road warrior. At number 16 Duct Tape....you bet. And right behind Carlos Santana comes Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon at number 20.

Oh well......here's another recommendation to readers to try something they will probably never find.

I agree with the Interstate System, too. I prefer to drive the older roads, off the Interstates, but that's only because they have such little traffic now. If the trucks were on those roads with me I would hate it.

I'm with Randy. I think people here in the U.S. take the Interstate Hwy System for granted. For better or worse, it's the biggest public work in the history of planet earth, and is at heart of American culture and the American economy. No where else in the world can you drive on a freeway like that for 3,000 miles, in one vehicle by yourself if you want.

People talk about the Roman roads and they were revolutionary for their time, but they're hiking trails compared to the interstate highway system.

We can give a big thanks to President Dwight D. Eishenhower, and Hitler for our current interstate highway system. In WW II, when the American Army discovered the early German Autobahn, they were amazed. A nice idea that Ike thought would be of good use here in the good old USA. Joe

As good as our interstates are, they're really showing their age. It's high time we coughed up some $$$ and revamped it, instead of the current 'band-aid' approach that's been the norm.
