It was, in fact, a spirit I know little about: Absinthe.

The bottle I ordered is part of a super limited production (<160 bottles) out of the Czech Republic. It has been hailed as the closest thing you can get to pre-ban absinthe.

I should receive it before Christmas, no idea if I'll open it right away or save it for a rainy day...

Here we go! My wife is a big Absinthe fan and I was ordering
bottles for her before the US ban was lifted. We started with
the Jade line from Ted Breaux (Absinthe "craft distiller"?) who
seems to know his stuff as far as "recreating" a vintage taste.

Hmm, the "super limited" sounds like it could be marketing
hype but you never know.

I'm pretty partial to Vieux Carre. It's a product out of Philadelphia Distilling. It's an incredible product that IMHO doesn't even need sugar - a bit of water and it's damn near perfect.

On a side note, they also make Bluecoat Gin, which is my favorite gin as well; it's got nice citrus character. You can make a great gin and tonic with it without the citrus, which is especially nice when you can't be bothered to go to the store for a piece of fruit.

In addition to being great spirits they're super affordable; mid-20s for Bluecoat, mid-50s for the absinthe - although the absinthe can be difficult to find (it seems they don't produce a lot of it - or it doesn't get to N KY very often).

Well according to what I read over at the Absinthe forum, the original run was intended to be a one-off and it's entire production was <80 bottles. Due to the overwhelming positive response they decided to make another batch. So, as of now, there are 160 bottles or less of this juice in the world.
