In case anyone is in the New York/Connecticut area, a few weeks ago I saw some Dewars 12 yo w/ glencairn glass sets at a Stew Leonards liquor store that I thougth were really really cheap...
They need to do more non-drink related item gift sets. I would pay more for a bottle of Wild Turkey with a commemorative knife, T-shirt or possibly mouse pad. Maybe even something for my kid like a 4 Roses Barbie.
Going to my local liquer store to see if I can find some early Christmas presents for meself![]()
Maker's Mark 750ml with 2 rocks glasses for $19.95. The glasses retail on the MM website for $8 a piece not counting shipping. A bottle of MM for $4 ain't bad at all.
Laissez les bons temps rouler!
I had to restock my basics so I ended up getting the Makers, Woodford, and Wild Turkey gift sets since they run the same prices as the bottle. The Woodford set came with a very heavy bottle topper and the Makers glasses are very cool.

It has long been the case in the booze business that gift sets won't fly with retailers unless they are priced the same or very close to the regular retail price for that product, so that's a good thing for consumers. Retailers generally won't buy the gift set if there's an up-charge. Like Moretorque05, I'll grab a gift set even if it's just for me since the gift, whatever it is, is essentially free.
And, after Christmas, they mark down the leftovers.
