EWSB sells for about the price of WT101 around these parts. OWA, Old Ezra 101, and OGD 114 were excellent suggestions as well.

How is it possible that you don't already have a bottle of both stashed in your bunker? Remember, ...this is a "professional" bourbon drinking website...and even though you might be new....it is up to each of us to buy all the bourbon we can, even if you don't drink it immediately.
OK, all kidding aside. A handle of Mellow Corn is like...$15. A 750ml of Turkey is around $20. The choice is clear....Mellow Corn. Especially, if you have to supply a bunch of hard drinking buddies. Mellow Corn also makes great cocktails...incase you have some ladies handy.
Some other options from what used to be Barton are an excellent alternative for flavor to cost ratio: And some are in Bib .....
Ky Tavern, Tom Moore, Ky Gentleman, Very Old Barton, Colonel Lee, Barclay,s, Walkers Deluxe, 1792 Ridgemont Reserve, Fleischmanns Rye, Ten High.

Saw some in Va., on a website, for about $9 a 750, this morning.
It might be time for you to find a new store...or see if your current store will offer some sort of cash or case discount. Many stores in Austin will offer cash discount, or buy two get 10% off, or mix and match a case.

WT101 is a nice choice, its one I would recommend if your buddy isn't the biggest whisky fan, its a nice whisky, thats quite likable.
However in the $20 range I would reach for Buffalo Trace or Bulleit, and in the sub $20 range I would grab W.L. Weller Special Reserve. But that's just me.
I don't believe that I agree with this.
WT is known for being very spicy and robust. Neither is in the wheel-house for a newbie or non whiskey fan. If, your guests are, at least, semi-experienced...then WT will be fine. But, I believe it is too advanced for someone with soft expectations.
Personally, I really like WT(mostly their rye 101) for its robust and nonchill filtered goodness. The lower proof, chill filtered versions just don't have the oomph I am looking for.
